We hosted my sister, brother-in-law and their three kids (12, 8, 5) up at our lake cabin last weekend. My sister and oldest nephew have become very interested in bass fishing over the past couple of years, but they only get to fish when they come to stay with us at our cabin. We had some good luck during this most recent stay of theirs, as they both set new PBs, and my wife did as well. We slept in on Saturday morning and my sister, wife & I didn't hit the water until 10:00 a.m. I had set my sister and wife up with a dropshot rig, both using a 5" wacky-rigged senko on it. This was the first time either of them had used a DS before. I was using just a plain wacky-rigged 7" senko.
15 minutes in, my sister started things off with this decent 2 pound SM. ![]() I hauled a 2lb 6oz LM into the boat a short time after that. Little did I know I would be so busy netting, photographing, re-tying dropshot rigs (those darn pike ![]() We went 30 minutes without landing another fish, but then my wife got into the act in a big way. She caught the next FOUR fish in a row, 3 SM & 1 LM, in span of 40 minutes. The LM was 2lb 13oz, a new PB for her, and the SM was a nice hefty 4 pounds even, which crushed her previous PB SM of 2lb 4oz from earlier this year. Here she is with the 4 pounder (19.0"). ![]() Just as I was unhooking the 4lb SM, my sister hooked into another one. The net was so fouled up with my wife's hook and dropshot weight that it was useless. So I hopped to the back of the boat holding the pig SM in one hand and lip-landed what turned out to be a 3lb 1oz SM with my other hand -- COOL! This broke my sister's PB Smallie that she had set just a little while ago. Here is my wife with her 4lb 0oz SM and 2lb 13oz LM and my sister with her 3lb 1oz and 2lb 13oz Smallies. ![]() We fished for another half hour or so before we needed to head back for lunch. During that time, my sister landed a LM and I ended the morning for us by boating a 2lb 3oz SM. It was a great two hours of fishing with 10 fish total for us and my sister setting two SM PBs and my wife catching her PB SM & LM! We made a one-hour outing that night and my nephew came up with his PB LM of 2lb 1oz, caught on a Bandit 100 crankbait. ![]() Not to be left out of fishing from the boat, our younger nephew (5) and niece (8) wanted us to take them out the next day. We anchored in a spot where they could catch some sunfish with waxworms and a bobber. And they were each very pleased to catch a "Bama-sized" ( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() How can you beat fishing with family, not to mention family who don't often get a chance to fish, and watching them catch nice fish?!? What an awesome weekend!!! . |

Man Dean it looks like you stay busy helping everyone with their fish, I hear that's how Bamabassman does it too lol. Seriously I have said it before but major kudos to you for getting everyone out on the water, those kids are having a blast and will remember these trips when they have kids of their own some day.
