I hear that you're supposed to use DARK colors in MURKY water, and BRIGHT colors in CLEAR water.
I also hear the opposite-BRIGHT in MURKY and DARK (or more natural) in clear. which one is it? seaphantom |

In murky/stained/muddy water i use bigger water moving, sound generating baits. In clearer water I use less flashy/bulky/noisemakers since fish feed more on sight than sound, and the reverse for the stained water, they feed more on sound than sight. Now with that said, I always have thought that chartreuse was a good color for stained waters, but I also prefer darker colors in general for plastics, regardless of the water clarity. However when I'm trying to imitate baitfish, then I usually go bighter with shad/bluegill patterns. So I really think it's a confidence thing for me, since we all know that bass will hit eveything from black to white, and everything in between ;D Lizards |

i go with darker colored lures in murkier water and brighter in clearer water. if u think about it u really never see bright colored bait in murky water. its like they adjust to their surroundings.

the general rule of thumb is dark skies, dark waters, dark baits; clear waters, clear skies, clear or natural baits.I generally use dark colors sucj as june bug , black, or red shad anytime the water is stained or there is some over cast and color such as smoke, pumpkin seed, watermelon seed when water is clear OR when there is no major cloud cover. Hope it helps,

in muggy condition's i would go with a june bug or firetiger bait. as the fish can't see much in the water go with somthing that displaces alot of water, or makes a ton of noise.-i would use a brush hog, wooley hawg tail, a large paddle tailed worm,or a fire tiger rattle trap,or other crankbait that has good loud rattles.
in clear water nateral color's work best, water mellon seed ,pumkin-all of them-, white or shad colored baits. in muddy water bass hold tighter to cover be it tree or dock or what ever. they will NOT be more than a foot from it. in clear water the maybe out on the outside limbs of a tree any where between 3-5 feet off the structure. i caught one 10 feet of the side of a dock once with no structure near it. zooker

For clear water you wanna go with lighter or natural colored baits, like baby bass, chartreuse, shad-colored, and whites. Â*As far as noise goes you want to displace more water and make more noise the murkier the water. Â*When the water is clear, things like thin rattle-less cranks with a narrow wobble pay off, as well as double-willow spinnerbaits with lighter colored skirts and trailers. Â*
In murky water I like to go with darker baits, junebug, red shad, watermelonseed, etc. When the water is muddy and murky, things that displaces a lot of water do better. Â*I like square-billed wide wobble crankbaits, black spinners with one big colorado blade, and creature baits that displace a lot of water. With Â*stained water that is still pretty clear I like tandem spinnerbaits as well as other darker colored lures. It also matters how you're fishing, if I'm sight fishing, I like to go with lighter baits. One of my favorite colors for superflukes is albino or white, even in stained water. |
