Angry The price of gold

Price of gold is affecting EVERYTHING. Yesterday I went to the dentist fot the prep work for a crown, ie - drilling and grinding. Last crown I got, and I have severall, was about seven years ago and cost around $500.00, that's a chunk of change for anyone just for a fake tooth, but I had insurance and they covered 80%. I still have dental insurance (guess I'm lucky for that) but I did ask how much this tooth would cost and what my insurance would cover. Good thing I was sitting down, I should have taken a hit of nitrous as well when I was told $990.00 - for one small tooth, not a molar but something called a bicuspid. Insurance - yeah they pick up a whopping $470.00 leaving me with an out of pocket expense of $520.00. So when my wife came home I told her to be sure and get my teeth (crowns, the others ain't worth crap) back from the mortician, probably a couple grand worth of gold in there now and the price keeps going up and my teeth keep going bad - maybe I should just consider this an investment.

I'm with you on that!
Worse yet, there's numerous cases against morticians going on now for taking 'clients ' gold teeth.
Next time ask if they have any gentley 'used' ones.

Bruce, I recently had a crown done as well.
I also have a 50/50 + copay insurance. Mine ended up costing me $445.

Here's the kicker...the crown was hurting me (the assistant basically admitted to me the dentist screwed up and made it too short), so I am getting it replaced tomorrow. Obviously, I'm not paying anything for the replacement.

Bad teeth suck, Bruce...I know.

I love it when places try to charge spot prices for 10 or 14kt gold. You'll find that a jewelry store will give you $35 for a 3 gram 10kt gold ring and then turn around and charge you $165 for a new one. What a racket!!!!

I'm in need of a root canal, myself. been putting it off till my insurance benefit starts over (which it has now).

Still considering having them just yank it

I've got one that is bothering me too, that sucker is getting yanked out. My wife had two root canals last year; the first was $1,300 and the second was $900. Plus a filling and cleanings! You guys are lucky to have dental insurance, or any for that matter.

Crowns are more complex than a simple cavity. To my knowledge, crowns are only made from gold or porcelain.
I'm assuming this is because they are stronger than a normal silver filling.
If you have a silver filling go bad, and the tooth underneath deteriorates bad enough, you won't be getting silver put back in. It would be gold or porcelain.

I had a filling put in about 5 years ago and it's deteriorated or a better word would be chipped off... I dread going to the dentist because I'm pretty sure he's going to do a root canal on that one and redo my front tooth's crown... oh and did I mention I've got a wisdom tooth coming in sideways? I've got insurance so I guess the only reason I haven't gone is I'm a big sissy...

Thats awful! I think if I ever need a crown I'll just drive over to Ace Hardware and get a tube of JB Weld.
