Default HB 597C DI or 788C DI Which unit to buy

I am purchasing my first boat. I am trying to decide which of these units to go with. The 788 is only $150 more and would allow me to ethernet it to my 1198C SI. It would be going on a 2012 Lowe Fishing Machine 175. I would be fishing mostly here in MN Some bigger water like Mill lacs and also some river fishing on the St. Croix. What would be some of the advantages going with the 788. Or is it not worth the money. The extra money is not an issue. I just do not want to be dissapointed down the road.

Congratulations on the new boat.
This ain't gonna be a technical answer, because I use something else, but it's about confidence. If you can afford the 788, and the extra $ doesn't keep you from making a special family memory, then go for it. If you go with the 597, you'll always wonder if you made the right decision.
The monkey always rules... Which monkey is up to you.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck.

Having the two units networked will allow you to create a waypoint or route on one unit and it will transfer to the second. Netoworking also allows you to share other units like the weather unit.

I have a 788 and it is a good unit, easy menus and good options.

The 788 is a no-brainer, if even for the bigger screen alone.

As far as Humminbirds go, pick the unit ending in an "8". You're going to have more features and better performance, period.

I will be hooking the 788 up to a terrova TM with built in transducer. another poster told me the built in transducer on the terrova will not do DI. He said I would have to hook up an external transducer to the terrova. Any one else have any experience on this?

Have the 788 c-real happy with it. Really considering the 788 DI for console and move the non-DI to bow.

Terrova has the standard dual beam built in, if you want DI you will need to add an external transducer.

Default yup

Single beam only, and no guarantees with that.
Use the dual on the console with a transducer designed for dual beam, you will like the split screen when you go across something major like a drop off.
And just as many ilde around with a quad beam you will find things off plane with it even that amaze you, like the aforementioned ledge. We havem here that go from 4 ft to 45 ft.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a 788 on the console but it is just the sonar/gps and a monochrome on the bow. I want to upgrade the bow unit to a color one and want the down imaging. I'm trying to decide if I want to put the DI on the console and move the 788 to the bow. My dilemma is the lake I fish most is an electric motor only so I rely on the bow unit more than the console so am trying to decide what unit and where to put it. I'm leaning towards the 788 DI but haven't decided yet.
