Default fishing for info on pickups

I've been looking at new pickups. looking at Silverado's and F150's. I like the crew cabs for inside room, But the beds are so short. Other option is extd. cab. For those of you with extd. cab, do you wish you had gotten the crew cab. How is it for pass. in the back as far as leg room? I've only been one newer silverado but not in the back. That was Daniel's at the last get-together In ala. BB had to set in the back. Looking for opinions either way.

I can get a better deal on the Chevy during truck month.

Thanks for any help.

I have a 2005 F-150, and I'm not happy with that selection. The 5.4L is underpowered, also had to replace the dash cluster in under 60,000 miles and now having trouble with the limited slip diff. I have owned mostly ford trucks but this one is a real let down for me.

I have a 2008 Silverado extended cab. There are some times when I wish I had the 4 door, but most of the time it is fine. I've only had people ride back there a couple of times, but it was O.K. for short trips. I don't think that you would want to put adults back there and go very far. I don't use the bed much either, but I don't think that I'd want it any smaller and I sure wouldn't want to have to park a 4 door long box! Overall I think that the extended cab is a pretty good compromise. And I have over 91k miles on the truck with ZERO problems.

My buddy just bought a 2008 Ford F150 Limited which is a 4 door. That extra room back there is really nice. I almost traded mine for an Avalanche last summer too, but the dealer screwed that one up. If I was buying a truck tomorrow I'm not really sure which way I would go.

I have a 2011 F-150 with the ecoboost engine and I love it. I really had no choice but to get a new truck because the truck I had was an extended cab and our son had absolutley no room at all back there because his car seat took up so much room. I bought the super crew and that thing is freaking huge back there. I have yet to have someone get in the truck for the first time and not comment on how much room there is in the back. We drove it to Shreveport Louisiana for the Bassmaster Classic and all 3 of the people in the back had tons of leg room. I personally haven't been in other crew cabs but everyone that has been in my truck says that it has way more room than other brands crew cabs. And you didn't ask about the motor but I will tell you that the ecoboost is the most amazing truck motor I have ever driven. V6 motors aren't supposed to have this kind of power. I can hardly tell that my 21 foot bass boat is even behind it and with the turbos kicking in at low RPMs you have a crazy amount of power and torque on the bottom end rather than the top end. The only thing I have driven that really compares to it is a diesel motor.

If you should happen to look at a Ram, I would advise you to get the Crew cab and not the Quad cab. I have the quad, and it would be good for kids back there, but not adults.

Hey Bryce, what kind of fuel mileage are you getting out of your Hemi?

I get about 14.5 daily driving, and about 19 highway. I get about 15 pulling the boat.

Ehhhhhhh I don't know about that. Depends on your actual needs. I have an '05 RAM (Dodge) quad cab. Four guys can be pretty comfortable in it. I've had 6 adults in it and while it is not the most comfortable, it works - so how often are you going to haul 6 adults? My father-in-law has a '10 RAM crew cab - and it's more comfortable in the back, certainly. It has about 4" extra inches of leg room in the back. I'm 6'5", 290# and I can sit back there comfortably, with another person. I can sit in the back of my own truck, but it's not near as comfortable - so how often will you have to stick a couple guys my size in the back, for an extended ride? The extra room in the back seat is compensated by a loss of 6" in the truck bed. So which is more important, the extra leg room or the little extra in the bed? That will be the factor to consider in your purchase, and that will likely apply to any brand, not just the RAM - although I don't know why anyone would by another brand of truck.

Truck choice is as personal as it gets for most men. I love Ford but I have to admit they have had their problems, for that matter all of them have. Dealerships make a big difference too. If you have a dealership that supports the product they sell then you are more likely to love the truck. I drive an F-250 6.0l diesel in Northern VA traffic every day. I work in an office and don't "have to have" my diesel but I love it. The 6.0l had more problems than any other Ford diesel but I knew that when I bought it and paid good money to remove all the parts that were known for failure.

All that said, GM trucks have more comfortable seats, Dodge Quad and Crew cabs have the exact same leg room in the back (the super duper crew, or what ever it is called, is much bigger), and Fords well,.... I already love them. After Dodge and GM were bailed out by the government I made a decision never to support them. Especially GM after they began running adds saying they had completely repaid the loan the government gave them when it was later reported by the government that it was not true.

Keep in mind that the Ford Super Crew comes in three bed lengths so if you saw the short one, go look for the long bed. I think it is 6 or 6.5 ft in length. The Eco Boost sounds like the way to go these days, that is until Nissan puts a diesel in the Titan which will force Ford to do the same to the F-150.....

Xintel, you are mistaken about the quad and crew Rams. The Crew has about 6 inches more leg room, as the bed is 6 inches shorter. The really huge one I think they call the PowerWagon, and it only comes in the 2500 or 3500 I think.

I'm in agreement with you on the bailout thing. I have been a Ford fan my whole life, but there were a couple reasons I ended up buying a Ram. One, they are a separate division from Dodge now (or shall I say Fiat?). Two, the latest gen of Rams is, imho perhaps the best-looking street truck ever made (especially the Bighorn, which I own), while the usually good-looking Ford put out something that looks like it came out of a Matchbox pack. The Ecoboost is a neat engine...I've always respected Ford's engineering.

That's pretty much what I am getting on the highway. I am getting around 16.5 to 17 around town though. I was getting quite a bit better mileage out of it before I put my tonneau cover on it though, I can't believe how bad that hurt my mileage.

I guess that proves the different strokes for different folks saying to be true. I don't think that anyone has made a truck that is anywhere near as good looking as Fords ever since they changed their body style in 2004. Although I would personally put the Ram in second.

I have a 2010 F-150 4dr, I will never go back to an extended cab. I got the 5 1/2 foot bed and wish I would have got the 6 1/2 footer instead.

I have a 2007 Lincoln Mark LT 4dr. I have been very happy with this truck, the ride is better than most and it pulls my boat with ease.

Love my 2005 Toyota Tundra extended cab. Not a lot of legroom in the backseat without shifting the seats forward. Bed is regular length.

Sounds like you have already decided your choice is going to be either Ford or Chevy, so I'm not going to tell you how much I love my double cab Tundra with the 6'6" bed.
A friend of mine has an 4-door, 4WD F150 with the Eco-Boost and he loves it. I've ridden in the backseat, and for my height (only 5'10") it had alot of room. It has alot of power and good mpg especially when pulling his boat. Since the engine is so new in the Ford line-up, I need to see how well it does after a couple more years.

I think the central theme of this thread has become how much we all love our trucks.

We traded our Tundra for the Denali truck and we love it. The Tundra was a disappointment. From my wife not being able to park it because it was “too big” and too high to get in and out of for my short a__ legs. The Denali is not only a beautiful truck but perfect power, stance and turn around radios. Gas mileage is better after break in but it could be better. I get tons of compliments on it and if you like a luxury truck this is the one you want. I am thinking of adding a bully dog as I have had them in the past and love them.

My son has the new F150 Eco boost and that is probably going to be my next truck I try. In a word, Perfect. I am always impressed by the power, mileage and cabin room. It would be difficult in my mind to want for anything more in a truck than what Ford is offering in the Eco boost. (As far as an everyday driver and fishing truck)

So I gave two reviews but no extra charge.

If you go with the F-150 i would say look into the eco-boost option, very good quality engine and has everything a V8 has but it as fuel efficient as a V6

Thanks for all the info guys. I have a 2000 f150 now work truck and its been pretty good 170,000 mi on it. most std. maint. till last year. Lot started to go wrong, worst was the gas tank straps rusted and tank fell out of truck! FULL OF GAS! Started leaking fire dept. called, they called EPA. What a mess. The worst part was it was the day befor the recall. Took Ford more than a month to fix it. No loaner or anything to drive for that time. Thats why I looked at the Chevy, but the ford gets better milage. Thanks again for the input.
