Default Turning the page

Well a few months ago I told a couple of you guys that I was going to be losing my job at the end of March. The vinyl siding company I have worked at for the last 7 years was closing down. Well yesterday was my last day of work. They paid us 2 weeks in lieu of notice and shut down 2 weeks earlier than they planned. This could not have happened at a worse time, literally the day that we learned that we were losing our jobs was the day that they broke ground on our new house. I knew that building a house in this economy was a risky decision but business had sucked for 3 years and they hadn't shut down yet, and they kept talking about how 2013 was when things were projected to start getting better so I felt pretty good about job security. Anyways we are going to land on our feet, I found a new job a few weeks ago. My new job is a better job anyways, with better hours and it's not a production which is worth a lot to me. I will now be home every evening with Britney and Lake so I am excited about that. I have been talking for the last 3 years about finding a new job but I just never did, so in a way this is a good thing because it forced me to find another job and I know in the long run I will be happier. Yesterday we went in for a good bye dinner and then we all went to the bowling alley for a little party and said our goodbyes. It was a lot harder than I ever thought it would be to say goodbye to all the people I worked with, honestly the people I worked with was the main reason I never found another job. I worked with several people that I consider my best friends and it was always fun working with them. We will all still hang out and do stuff together, and I fish with a few of them but it still won't be the same. Anyways, I just thought I would let you all know that I am turning the page and starting a new job on Wednesday. I am going to be a product development technician in a prototype shop for a company called Leggett & Platt. Basically engineers design new products and then we will make one of them to send of to be destroyed through testing, then we will make changes and build it again and again until we get it right. This is going to be a good change because I was tired of working in production and the noon to midnight shift was getting really old.

Well, it sucks that you lost your job, but at least you saw it coming and planned ahead so you could land on your feet. Good luck with the new gig.
So, what are you going to do for the next two weeks? Paid vacation? Or will the new job let you start early?

I landed the new job last week. We found out that we were shutting down earlier the day before I got offered my new job so I told them I didn't really want to start before we shut down because I would lose my severance package which is worth about $10,000. They understood and are letting me start next Wednesday.

Congrats on the new job Kory! It's sad to see so many places like that closing up (my dad is in the building industry, so we've seen a lot of places close in the last several years). But it's great you've found a new job with better hours!

Losing your job never seems like a good thing but often times it's the best thing that could possibly happen. When one door closes, a better door opens. The good Lord takes care of us, even when we don't always understand the method.

Bad news / GOOD news. Looks like your old company folding did you a favor. Don't take that the wrong way, as not everyone will be as fortunate as you, I understand that and hope things work out for your former co-workers as well. No one likes seeing a USA business fold, but in your individual case you'll be doing better because of it. More family time = huge bonus. I'm very happy things worked out for you Kory, and add my congratulations on finding new employment!

Kory, your post should be required reading for all high school and college students.

1. Area completely wiped out by tornado.
2. National economy in shambles.
3. Laid off as employer shuts down.

Conventional wisdom these days would have you calculating how many weeks of unemployment you could milk out of the taxpayer before you have to get off your butt and look for something. Maybe you would even go "occupy" something.

I take my hat off to you, man. You did it all the way it should be done, and now you're going to prosper for it.

Congrats on the new job Kory. I can't imagine the stress of building a new house and at the same time starting a new job. Sounds like God was taking care of your family. It all looks very possitive and thats awsome. Maybe you'll get to watch a few more Cards games at night. New job, new house, new coach, there is something to that! lol

As crazy as it might sound, that thought did cross my mind.

Glad you were able to find a new job so quickly. It seems like the hours will be better, and you will be able to spend more time with the family, and be able to get out and do some fishing as well.
