Default Man getting old sucks.

About a week and a half ago I started having back pains at work. The pain started at the back of my arm pit on my right side and ran to the middle of my back. I kept thinking that it will go away pretty soon, but it turns out that kind of overnight healing stops when you hit your late 20's haha. After a little over a week I decided I better go to someone and see if anything could be done. Problem was, I didn't know if it was a chiropractor issue, doctor issue, or if a massage would help it. So I called our doctor and he said to go to the chiropractor first and if that didn't help to go see him. The chiropracter determined I had a seperated rib. I have no idea at all how it happened, I haven't done anything to hurt myself or even remotely explain this happening. He said that if it didn't start feeling better, the sooner I could get back to him the better. After a few more days of it not improving Britney forced me to go to the doctor. He checked me over and agreed that it is a seperated rib. He said that the chiropractor is my best friend and it could take 3 weeks or so for it to heal, and the less I used it the quicker it would heal (by the way, we are getting ready to move into the new house haha). He asked me if I had taken anything for it and I told him that I was taking Vicodin that I had a perscription for because of some dental work I had done a while back. He asked if it helped? I said "no it still hurts, but it keeps me from giving a damn about it" lol. He laughed and wrote me a script for some muscle relaxers and said to see if they helped. Well they didn't ease the pain at all but I am all caught up on my sleep now. I got home from work the other night at 5:10 and I was in bed before 6:00 hahaha. It is the most unbareable pain I have ever had. Back pain is not new to me, but I always have been able to find a way to sit or stand to ease the pain. But with this, there is absolutley no way of sitting or standing that gives me any relief. Finally yesterday I felt a little better, although far from good. And today I feel probably about 90%, and I since I haven't had a need for them all day, I haven't taken a pain pill or muscle relaxer today. I am hoping that taking it easy for the rest of the weekend will get me off the meds and back to feeling better, but if nothing else Vicodin and muscle relaxers are a sure fire way to make the work day more tollerable LOL. I remember a few years ago I never had a pain that lasted more than a day or so, it seemed like I would heal over night and this sort of thing would just go away on its own. I am only 29 and I am already starting to realize that getting old sucks.

You have my sympathies, Kory.

I totally understand the back pain thing. Just be glad it will heal at all.

I am not a big fan of some of the more "out there" aspects of Chiropractic, but I will tell you they are fantastic at pain relief on injuries like you have.

Kory, warmup and get good and loose before playing catch wjth Brittney. Playing catch with a redhead will hurt a normal man, but even a good man as to get loose.

I have been going to the chiropractor since I was in high school. It was hard for me at first to trust a guy I just met to twist me up and pop my neck and back. But I have been going to the same chiropractor for the last 14 years or so and trust him as much as you can possibly trust a guy. He has fixed me up after nasty collisions at the plate in high school baseball, brutal boat rides in bass tournaments, and regular adjustments when I put off going to see him so long that I end up hurting myself tying my shoes or picking up Lake. He has made me feel a lot more comfortable already and I hope that Monday might be the last time I need to see him to get over the hump.

I am glad to see your feeling better buddy. I wonder if maybe you hurt the rib from a hard caughing fit. I've heard of people having injuries to a rib from that. The big question is can you make a cast with that kind of injury!

I have heard of that too, Keith. But I haven't had any coughing fits lately so I am unsure of what caused it. And I was asked to fish a Friday night tournament lastnight and actually declined because I was affraid I would undo what little progress I made. That is the first time I remember turning down an offer to fish a tournament but I think it was the right choice.

I know what you mean dude. I am only a few years older than you and the little aches and pains just don't go away like they used to. The worst part for me is my back pain is usually caused by sleeping. Sometimes I wake up in the morning with pain shooting down my neck into my lower back. I won't be able to turn my head for 3 or 4 days. My knees will also flare up and swell from time to time. It seems like all the hell I put my body through when I was younger is catching up with me. I feel like I will be completely crippled by the time I'm 50. It sucks getting old.

Jeez guys, you sound like a bunch of old ladies. I'll join in to. My Plantar Fasciitis has come back that I got rid of back in the early 90's. I just joined a gout study. My middle finger on my left hand looks like a piece of sausage from the gout. My back has bothered me since high school. Standing to fish kills my lower back. I don't have dental insurance and it's been quite a while since I've visited the dentist. About 20 years ago I started to see a young dentist in my town. I found out later he was on cocaine. Thus the shoddy work he did led to three broken teeth later down the road. Every so often the fillings fall out of the broken teeth. I can't bend either pointing finger due to arthritis. I hope I don't get into a fight because I can't make a fist anymore.
All of the above doesn't stop me from going fishing. Tomorrow I am going to a new lake to try out. Clear deep water with both large and small mouth. Muskies, pike, walleye, pickeral, a couple of different kinds of trout plus all kinds of panfish. Man I am watering at the mouth to get my boat on that lake.
Well all I can say is you young guys take care of your self. Maybe you won't join the old lady club.

It's like Mickey Mantle once said, "If I knew that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of my body" hahaha!

Pulled my back playing basketball in middle school one time, I jumped, hit my feet and something happened back there! Couldn't hardley move an hour later or the next couple days. Never went to the doc or anything, but I just sat in a chair all day looking like I had a pole running through me. Hurt like he77, so I know where you're coming from. Hope ya start feeling better soon bud, hope it don't keep ya down to long.

Of course pains and poor health aren't funny at all and at 55 I've had a little of both. But it is comical to me to hear how peoples conversations and priorities change. If we're all still here in a few years jsut having a good bowel movement will get a hearty round of congrats from everybody!

Sorry to hear your having some pain and mystery of how and why.
So yer getting old at 29?...I was immortal until about 45...now at 58 I'm slower getting things done, take more breaks and sleep more. But I really relate to a back issue....I have degenerative disc disease and at times, it's not fun.
We tend to take our health for granted...until we're reminded that we're just mere mortals.

Hope yer on the mend and leave the pain behind soon!

Ah, but look at the things you have gained in all of these years you have lived. I'm sure they "far, out-weight" the pains you are feeling.

But I understand, I hope you get better soon.

That is so true, Woody!

We do trade our youthful energy for knowledge and wisdom. Kind of reminds you of the old saying "youth is wasted on the young".

And Ron pulls the catcher's mitt out of his back pocket to have me rolling over Kory's misery. 36 and in the same boat. Roughnecking and working derricks and feeling like I could never get hurt has caught up with me. Plus when I was 14, I fell about 40' and landed on my butt and compresses 5 lower vertebra. It comes and goes, but every time it flares, it seems to take a little longer to ease up than last time.

Getting older does suck, but it is much better than the alternative.
