Heart breaking loss
Went to our local high school football game tonight in Valparaiso Indiana which is my alma mater. We were playing against Carmel Indiana which is the #1 top rated team in the state as they often are. They are one of the states "Big Boys" when it comes to state high school sports and located outside of Indianapolis. This year, my team the Vikings from Valpo were ranked 8th in our conference I believe, being a younger and inexperienced team. But at one point, Valpo lead 13-0. At halftime, we were leading 13-7. Everyone was feeling major upset in the air. The second half was a slug fest, with Carmel comming back and taking the lead 21-13. Midway through the 4th quarter we had a powerful drive and scored to make the score 21-20 Carmel. Everyone was on their feet hoping and praying for the upset and cheering on the team. Carmel got the ball back and had a drive going when we stopped them cold. But in the end, we got the ball back with 5 minutes left but were unable to make that final needed drive. Carmels powerful defense stopped us cold after a couple first downs and the game was over. It was a heart breaking loss, but everyone stood and cheered the team after the loss. To take powerful Carmel to the final minute of the game and darn near beat them was more than anyone ever expected. We were still proud of our boys and the way they fought so hard to win. Maybe next year.
