Elk River, North Alabama
Fished a half day out of anderson creek today. Caught 8 total, fish are on isolated wood close to spawning flats. Caught 4 on jigs, 3 on tiki sticks and 1 on a luhr jenson nipididdee at dusk. A lot of boaters out on a sunday, those water skiers must be dumb as bricks to try and ski in a river as loaded with floating logs as the elk. No mayflies as of yet, but with temps getting into or near the 90s it wont be long.

I was at a fishin' club in Marion, Al this weekend and the mayflies have started hatching out there. Shouldnt be to long till they started hatching on the Elk.

Re: Elk River, North Alabama
02, I've heard that you have them - can't say for sure.
Mayflies are a pretty famous type of bug that tends to hatch from I guess may to august depending on where you are. They hatch so thick along the banks of rivers that it becomes a mojor fishing event, with bream bass and especially trout gorging themeselves. So when the mayflies hatch, get out your flyrod and have fun. BTW, lots of reports now of a hatch near decatur - gonna see for myself if I can tomorrow. Dyas: I'm gonna try to take my boat down to UA this year - if I get a chance I'm sure I will be driving down through Marion to Millers Ferry. |

Well WTL good luck, hope you catch a big one. I'll probably be back at the club in Marion in two weeks or so. Maybe by then the water will be a little clearer than it has been with all this rain.

If there any down there they are already hatched. A lot of them have already started dieing and falling out of the trees here in Atmore.
