Thumbs up Stopping the Spam...

Hi Guys,

I'm so sorry for all these spam attacks recently. Thank you for everyone's help in notifying me of this. I have taken some serious actions to prevent any further spam from appearing on the forums.
  • All new member registrations will require moderator approval.
  • All new approved members will be subject to strict keyword-censorship monitoring (software) that will place their posts in moderation queue if detected as spam.
  • I have implemented a strong Question & Answer that must be answered correctly in order to register.
  • I will be monitoring the forums more closely since these have just been implemented.
As I'm sure you all are well aware, nothing is 100% bulletproof when it comes to stopping these spammers. But I feel after implementing what has been done, it will drastically reduce the chances of use seeing future spam posts.

I have deleted all visible spam posts that I could find. I think they are all gone, but if anyone finds others, please link to it in this thread if you are so kind.

I will be doing MUCH more tonight to help prevent this from happening again.

Thank you for everyone's help and continued patience. I want to make sure this is a fun and enjoyable environment for everyone.

I'm confident we'll see a drastic improvement with these prevention steps. There may be some registered spammers that are already "in", however, that may continue posting in the near short term... so continue to report them as spam.

Thanks to all and hope everyone is doing great and catching good fish this Fall.

Take care,

Thanks Kevin, much appreciated. Have you given any thought to imposing a post count minimum before being allowed to post in the for sale section?

Kevin, I'm glad to see the steps you've taken regarding this matter. I love this site and the folks who are good honest members here. I'd hate to see it loose membership over a few bad apples. And as Bama said already, we really do appreciate you and care about whats happening in your life. I think all of us regulars would be glad to read an update on whats new with you. And, yes, we will continue to report spam as we find it. Thanks again and God bless.

This morning Kevin I 'sorta' watched two 'bots' try to post.

Seems they could register OK but spent hours trying to post. The new software must put them in repeat cycle so they just spin in circles.
Finally they left and quit trying.

Thanks again for all your efforts!

Here's a couple as we type.... (input Vince )
comishvup8, cowensspgg9, , juf44fddf, pachecod7, scholtenmo8.....I think anyways.
If you check their activity their all 'hotmail' addresses and they are all trying to post in a different section. Watch and check later the section they were posting in.....should not have been able to post.
Join dates are from during the onslaught and usually a couple will be same dates of joining, yet no posts but I see them posting. ( Vince....)

Now don't jump me if I'm wrong and just because someone uses 'hotmail' doesn't make them 'spam'.
These just ALL are!
Hotmail is used my most spammers though. Must be free or something, never used it so don't know the 'whys'.

Click on any names the anglers above posted in blue in their 'spam lists' above, you'll see what I'm talking about.

FUNNY - User name = fgf6fxc5df and the email address is gaibei11@hotmail.com, am I reading this correctly? Gay Be I eleven @ hotmail.com? Seems like Ken may have been correct in the Maggot and his Minions post. Well it is their month, maybe they are just reaching out, are they all from Nevada?
