Building a Beach
I have lake front property up north and the lake is all muck and i want to build a beach. My neighbor put a pool liner down and then put sand on top of it. I was wondering if any of you guys have ever built a beach or know somebody who has, and know what i can use to put down to cover the muck so i can put sand down.

Walmart usually has some turtles that hold sand, you could buy tweleve of those and then maybe a few dozen trash bags, cut them open and put water all over them, then drink heavily and you wont even care! :P

Well, I've never done it. I'll get that out of the way, but instead of a pool liner which are expensive unless you get a scrapped one which is normally shreded, you might oughta try bisqueen plastic. You could cover a much larger area than a pool liner ever would. Of course, then you need to add the sand - lots of it so you would probably have to get a dump truck that specializes in delivering sand or aggregate - and as a last step you might ought to consider something that will act to keep all that sand from sliding down into the lake, a lip or something out in the water- maybe bags of hardened concrete?

Re: Building a Beach
The best thing is contact a local company that sprays waterways. There are chemicals designed to kill the algae that settles. Most chemicals these days are enviro friendly also. We use a jet ski, tie it in place and floor it. With a tilt engine the thrust will displace a lot of below water muck and algae. The water will be dirty for a while but if you can clear a large amount of debris out first your on the way. Ive seen a trailer park on a lake that has a white sand bottom throughout the slips, the minute you go ten feet past the farthest reach of the dock it turns to muck and algae. After that, I would invest in a dump truck of white or yellow sand and have it dumped where you want it. Youll lose some but if you dont have a drastic elevation change the sand should settle where you put it. Another option could be to lay sandbags over the entire area and then cover w/ sand. This could pose a problem w/ twisted ankles and stubbed toes if the sand doesn't cover the bags completely. Im not a pro but we have done upkeep on a few places with seawalls and beaches. 8)
