Haunted Pond?
I went to this pond that no one have caught a bass there in over a year. The weeds are so think that is about an 8 foot deep pond and about 6 feet of it is covered in underwater thick grass. I thought i was getting hits from bass but when i hooked one and reeled it in, it was a deformed frog thing. Thank god i didnt have to touch it because it got off the hook itself on shore. Then i saw what looked like to be bass surfacing on the other side. So I went there. When i got there a had my new berkley lighting rod 6' medium heavy with my new mitchell reel(i forget the name of it) and was throwing a Black/ Blue Flake Tiki Stick. I casted right where all the "bass" were surfacing and was getting nothing. I look to the left of me and there was a mother duck and her 5 ducklings. Out of no where, one of the ducklings gets pulled under the water, never to be see again. I was with PowerBass at the time and me and him looked at each other in amazement. We had know idea what happend! The Pond is on some old farm that someone my have died in the house or maybe even drowned in the pond. Then, We look at the ducklings again and BOOOOOM! There goes another one!! TWO DUCKS IN ABOUT A 5 MINUTE SPAND!! I dont know if im ever goin back to that pond sorry my computer just crapped out on my and I can barley do anything I will have to space my sentences illgo back to the pond sooner or later if there is any bass still left in that pond from all the grass and strange behavior they will be some big boys! The duck eating thing is probably a gigantic snapping turtle or something like that but if no then I don’t know about that freaky pond!

Re: Haunted Pond?
2 things could have happened.......you know ducks swim under water....when they go under....they go fast and quick, and they stay under and can swim very far.....thats the more likely out of the 2.....the other one....do you have gators in NJ? if so....ducks make a great food dish for gators...or there is a large bass or pike or something in there eating the bass.....im sure if the pond was haunted a dead guy under water wouldnt be eating ducks ;D i would tear that place up with all that grass....when it reaches the top i would throw a frog ontop of the grass.......BOOOOM! ;D

Re: Haunted Pond?
clay,
i saw what was eating the birds. It was a huge snapper! We started with 1 adult duck and 5 ducklings, now we only have 3 ducklings left, and they are probably dead. |

Re: Haunted Pond?
just so you know, bass will eat baby ducks, they do it quite often here, its just a predatory thing, and there might be pike or muskie in the lake

Re: Haunted Pond?
You might want to try a duck topwater. I have read about these in magazines. Its either a duck or a bird but Terry Batesky if thats how you spell his name says they are a secret weapon of his for big bass. They had a featured article in a Bassmaster Magazine a couple of years ago where this guy hand crafted the topwaters.

Re: Haunted Pond?
PB,
Â* Maybe we should get a duck decoy from bf02 and put some big *** treble hooksa on it. If it is a snapper then it should distroy the decoy, but if its a bass.....WOW! Â*Hey by the way did your dad tell you how good i was with the baitcaster?? It was so much fun throwing that thing! ;D |

Re: Haunted Pond?
Bass, Pike, and Muskie will eat ducks. If you know of a lake loaded with big pike, get a meathook and a bucket full of kittens and just hook them in the flesh on the back. Throw it out there and hang on. ;D(I know people on farms in N. Dakota do this because cats are like rats there)

Re: Haunted Pond?
You want a haunted pond, just go to Shiloh battlefield and take a look at the bloody pond. Â*The thing still has a weird reflection. Â*The pond you are fishing just has some deformed frogs (which is not uncommon nowadays), and a gamefish which is feeding on ducks (very common, like they said get a rat). Â*

Re: Haunted Pond?
Some people think a buzzbait resembles a baby duck flapping its wings before taking off. Try it.

Re: Haunted Pond?
nj, our duck decoys may be just a bit to big..... ;D yup...snappers will do it too. they use baby kittens also in other countries on a rope and crank system and get many HUGE 150lb+ cats now before somebody says that the record for blue cats is 124lbs...thats only for rod/reel 8)

Re: Haunted Pond?
Big catfish will pull down any size duck. Watched it on a nature show one time. Now this cat that did it was pretty big. I remember seeing duck lures at k-mart about 20 or 30 years ago. If i remember they were made of a hard plastic and were yellow.

Re: Haunted Pond?
I've read that bass actually are not very good at getting any kind of birds... 4 times out of 5 the bird will escape unscathed when attacked.
Usually the bass only pick off the lame ducklings that won't survive anyways. |

Re: Haunted Pond?
power sorry yours was the only post i didn't read. i hate those damn things what you have to do it catch a blue gill hook it in the back and tie the hook onto a large rope. throw it out and then come back the next day with a 22 pistol. pull in the rope and once you get the turtle on the land shoot it in the head.
