Anyone ever catch any crappie while bass fishing? Ive caught two. One was off a 7 in. ribbon-tailed Texas rigged worm. The other was caught off a Zara Spook. I thought this kind of weird because crappie rarely feed on the surface. They were both over 2lbs.

Never caught any crappie, but I did catch a 5 inch redeye rock bass on a 7 inch worm one time. That was a funny sight to see. The worm was hanging out of his mouth past his tail.

I've never heard them called bowfin. I did a search on google and found out thats what down here we call scaly cats (catfish w/ scales). I've caught several over ten pounds before.

down here we call them blackfish or mudfish...i was just using the proper name so everyone on here knew what i was talking about. my biggest is about 7lbs. i dont like them...they tear up my baits. but they are pretty fun to catch when nothin else is biting.

In New England it's easy to get "pickerel syndrome." Even Charlie Moore gets it a lot.

I've caught numerous crappie, almost all while bass fishing, as I can only remember actually fishing for crappie once. They, like most species, will often take lures that we think are too big for them.

Seems like every trip I go on, I catch something weird, I have caught trout, crappie, a 24lb catfish, and a big ole nasty snake, I about jumped outta the boat when I saw it.

Can't say I've caught a lot of them Bass fishing, but in my first tournament, I caught a 10" crappie on a 4" Pulse worm. At the coal pit I fish, many folks fish it for crappie. I've probably caught 7 or so over the last 3 years. All have been in excess of 12" I catch them of Spinnerbaits, Flukes, and Pulse worms. As already stated they are good eating, but since I don't fish for them, never catch enough to make a good fish fry. There have been 4 crappie caught out of the coal pit 16" or bigger that I've seen. That's one heck of a crappie.

I caught it on a 14" floating worm, I stopped to pull out my backlash and the line started tearing off my reel, I was like wth.
