Set your brakes to 75% capacity. Then when you have the lure/nut/casting plug/washer/whatever tied on, you need to adjust the tension control to where you need to actually shake the tip a little for it to fall with the casting button pushed in. This will help with the backlashes until you get the hang of it. On the down side it will cut into your distance, but believe me you need to learn it before trying to wing 1/8 buzzbaits on them in the wind. As you get better you will loosen the tension control and back off of the weights. It will take awhile to get decent with it, and then just as you think you got it down, BOOM, you can read in Rebasser's signature what happens next.

Out of all the readings and pics that you can see read or do the one thng I might add that will help you the most is to do what I have taught my kids and they are both pretty d#@$ good at baitcaster now. After sevral hundred dollars of line that I had to buy becuase of backlashes I had my 2 boys practise with there eyes closed to Educate there thumbs and IT WORKS. One of my boys is 10 and the other is 12 and they both can throw a baitcaster comparable to most of the people that I encounter. They been throwing a baitcaster for about 4 years now and now I am not afraid of wearing a bait for a earring.

Learn to cast with either hand, then pitch a plug in a 5 gallon pail and then change distances pitching to the pail then exchange the pail for a coffee can and repeat pitching at different distances and different angles, then put a saw horse so the can sits under the sawhorse beam and learn that , then run in place while pitching, then put a blindfold on and pitch from various stations. Once you have success at that, change the coffee can to a tomato paste can and repeat the sequence. If you succeed in doing that, you will have become far better than I will ever be at pitching.

PNJ I have tried my hardest to learn how to pitch or flip with my left hand and all I get is frustrated and backlashes etc..etc... I guess it goes back to the old saying "you cant teach a old dog new tricks" Being 45 its REAL hard to break habits but the left hand casting is one I have tried to master to no avail even though I know that would mean a few more casts in a tourney or whatever the situation I still havent been able to crack that one.

I went out and got a Bionix IM7 rod and Quantum UL300C reel last night. I tried to practice in the dark but it was tough. I bought some braided line but at first I put on some Cajon Red casting so hopefully it is easier. I will try what it says above and try again. I really am not sure of the advantage over spining though.
