Square billed IMO are a better choice when using in timber and usually shallower. Especially banging them, or even bigger rocks. They will get hung up less, and seem to have a better reaction off of objects. I like the rounded ones more for digging on the bottom, or more open water. I do fish both however in both conditions. If I have a choice, I do the above, but if I have a crank with a rounded bill, and I think it's the best choice, I won't hesitate to throw it in the timber. I just have to go get it more often. Bandit makes a good square billed shallow and medium divers IMO. Just about any brand can work, just gotta have it at the right place at the right time.

Lizards pretty well covered it. The square bill deflects off things better so you get hung up less.

Some good square bill baits:

Bagley Balsa B1, 2 and 3
Lucky Craft Fat CB 1, 2, 3 and 4
Norman Fat Boy
Bomber Square A

All of these baits are very bouyant, have fatter bodies, move a lot of water and are made to deflect well in cover.
