Gun Shy Dog

Up until last year, I had the perfect hunting dog. Literally, lived to retrieve birds. Dakota was the ultimate yellow lab, and nothing could stop him. But, one day when my parents got home from work, (after picking myself up from lacrosse, and my sisters from soccer), we found at that poor Dakota (3 years old) had found his way into the garbage. He got a bag of chopped meat, and started eating out of the bag,a nd unfortunatly, suffocated on the zip loc bag. So two weeks later we had Jersey Girl.

Jersey Girl is a GREAT dog. She doesnt have one mean bone in her body and she is just under 60 lbs. She LOVES fetching, but sadly, is gun shy as hell. I swear on this forum, she runs under my parents bed, when my mom pops her bubble gum bubbles near her. Does anyone know if it is possible to train a dog to not be gunshy? thanks guys
