Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report From Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, I hope all had a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving. The weather has been something else. The weatherman is calling for rain. We need it and it may douse your weekend plans but the rain is a necessary evil. The wind was light today and the fish were not very corporative. I fished a half a day Thanksgiving day for a few fish. The lake looked like glass. This is a bad omen for me. I usually can’t catch fish on a slick lake and today was no different. I like the wind to blow and usually this will help me to catch fish. We fished shallow and caught a couple on wacky worms and then moved out on 25 foot of water and caught a few on spoons and I switched to a wacky worm over 25 foot and caught a couple with this. I know what made you think a wacky worm over 25 foot of water would work. Well the fish were suspended and would not hit any other bait I had tried and I thought try something different. I had a nail in it and counted it down to about 16 feet and tick there it was. Sometimes a little different approach will save the day.
The water has dropped 4 inches since Monday. I marked my dock and the lake has fallen ½ inch per day. We have a 8 inch pipe and it is open 24/7. This is no different than your drain in your bath tub. After a while all the water will drain out. At the current time the lake level is about 4 feet low. The water temp is 56 to 60 degrees. The water is clear.
I have been fishing a spoon, Carolina rig, tail spinner, drop shot, and lipless crank bait. The Lake Fork Tackle twitch worm and Baby Ring Fry on the drop shot, Carolina Rig, and just Texas rigged have been very good in the shallow and deep water.
The Wave Baby Tiki Stick and the Tiki Stick weightless and wacky have been good over and around the grass. The Crappie have been mainly up at the main lake points. The deep water has been the ticket. Slow has been the action on the bridges.
I still have time in December for Some trips if winter fishing is your thing. When The First of December the first twenty five you catch you have to keep so keep this in mind if you want to catch some eating fish.
