Default My first hawg!

Today, I went fishing at a small lake (25 acres) that I have been to a number of times before. I just took one pole and a small tackle box that fits in my back pocket. It's filled with the basics: a crankbait, spinner, tiki stick, fluke, jig, worm.

There is an area of shoreline that is about 50 yards long that I wanted to fish. Normally, the weeds and full trees that extend all of the way up to the lake make it about impossible to fish the area during the summer. But, much of the vegetation has died since it is November. The area I fished extends from the main feeder creek to a cove. The cove is a flat in the innermost part and then quickly drops off as it meets the main body of the lake.

I caught my hawg at the mouth of the cove on a double Colorado bladed yellow and golden brown 1/2 oz. spinner. (Keep in mind, my largest bass to date was about 2.5 lbs.) Even though I thought I hooked a log or something, I still set the hook. I never take the chance. I can't explain my excitement when I realized it was moving. I'm sure you guys know how I felt. All I could think was, "Please, don't throw the hook." It only came out of the water twice, once on its own trying to throw the hook, the second time with my thumb shoved down its throat!

Sorry for the long post, but I'm still pumped even though it was almost three hours ago. Now, for your help. I didn't have a scale with me, so I crudely measured its length against my pole. It was about 20 inches. Its belly looked to be average. It wasn't fat. Any ideas on how much it might have weighed? I'm guessing about 5lbs.
