Well, the fishing on Fork this week has been up and down for me. Today we couldn’t catch shallow fish and went deep. Finally got on a small wad of fish. This was in 27 foot out to 35 foot of water. We tried drop shots and Carolina rigs and switched to a spoon and that was the magic weapon. I had Robert Cox and two of his sons which were 9 and 12. We struggled till we found the magic bait and the race was on. Tomorrow I plan on trying shallow again and hope the slight cloud cover will help us. The best size spoon was the 3/8 or ½ ounce in chrome. 12 to 15 pound was the line size and this made no difference. The fish would hit the bait and you would miss the fish. The problem was the fish were not interested but couldn’t help slapping at the bait.
The crappie are all over the main lake points. There were big groups of people every where. It looked a Parking lot with all the boats everywhere. These fish were in the same depth as the bass. Small jigs and minnows are the best baits. I am booking spring trips and if you want to fish give me a call. I wish all a very Happy New Year. From Jim And Carol Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
