Stocked trout call for small spinners, like a mepps. Really anything thats small and very flashy. If they don't hit that then go with powerbait, but its a slow way to fish. Be sure to use light line and bundle up, just sitting out there waiting for a fish to hit powerbait is way colder than moving around fishing artificials.

We usually try a small maribu (1/16th or 1/32) jig with bobber, along with either small piece of corn or cheese, or a minnow...best bet is to go when its breezy and overcast..a sunny day with no wind will get you nothing as far as stocked trout go..also a little tip, those stocked trout usually go around an round the ponds they are placed in, you'll notice they hit in your area and then move on..I've seen many guys walk the banks to stay on top of the school..remember, stocked fish are used to being fed, so the yellow corn or cheese seem to work around here, usually feb - march...then the water gets to warm... personally, I perfer either popping a yellow jig tipped with minnow

I'm with Zooker about the corn, use light line and some split shot about '12 inches from the hook. Also try some Berkley Power Bait for trout. They make it in a assortment of colors.

Fishing for stocked trout is like hunting deer in a zoo.
If by any means you can find wild trout in your area, go for them instead. |

I used to fish with a guy that went for the native trout, he spent most of his time crawling around on his hands and knees. But he was good, Darn good.

Our temps are right at freezing. We went out today, didn't do so well. The light misting rain turned to ice on our coats and hats. The kids said they were too cold so we didnt stay out too long. I will have to go back out again this week sometime. Thanks for your suggestions

As usual a day late and a dollar short. I use garlic cheese. I usually take a little and roll it into a ball and put it on a small hook. Toss it in and wait. It works well for me in the stocked streams around here.

stocked trout ponds shouldnt be too hard to get bites from. whenever i fish rainbow trout in stocked ponds in the Smoky Mountains, usually you can get em on corn, even better are earthworms and salmon eggs. You can even use trout eggs too they work just as good. With stocked ponds getting bites is easy, but remember to handle it well, because if you try to set the hook hard or reel in quick the trout will probably get away. They have soft mouths so you cant reel them in like you can reel in bass.
