Default First Cast Luck

Well it bit me again. I went fishing today, caught a small mouth bass on the very first cast. Technically it was a largemouth, but considering it was 8 inches long, its mouth really wasn't that large. Turns out that would be the only fish I caught all day. Seems everytime I catch a fish on the first cast, I catch nothing else all day. I think I'm going to start making awful presentations from now on with my first cast to protect myself from this. I had one other bite on a rattle trap, but didn't be it hooked. This lake is known for numbers but mostly small bass, I imagine it was a tiny fish that couldn't get its mouth around the 'trap. Was nice getting out on the water though. Hope yall had better luck than I.

I usually make my first cast a bad one for that reason. I will cast 3-6 ft, pop the lure once, then reel in. Then I am fine for the remainder of the day.

RodmanRob,It's in your head and not in your heart. You have got to get a stronger mindset, and adjust to find the pattern for that day. Make a decision to move to a new area if you don't get a bite in 20 minutes of fishing,or change lures until you figure out something out.Concentrate on the high percentage targets and make multiple casts to the target. You must allow the fish to bite by keying in on what is happening in the water around you, Allow yourself to make the correct presentation for the day, and allow the fish to bite your presentations.Leave the negativity back at the launch, Positive mindset will get positive results.... It all sounds like a bunch of crap doesn't it ? Please do yourself a favor and try it the next 10 times you go out fishing. If it doesn't work . Boot the computer up get on this site and post P N J , your full of crap. Its a win, win situation for you , either way you win , so what do you have to lose ? P N J

well hey, i think its the opposite. my first fish was on the first cast of the day, after like 100 trips, so i got so very excited and tried so hard that i caught another one.

Nope-you ain't alone and you definitely aren't crazy-then again, maybe you are-most bass fishermen are a little nuts

Cranky, most of the time when you catch one on the first cast you are sunk-I've seen it happen too many times. I've intentionally messed up the first cast on more than one occasion for that reason.
