MinnKota Vs Motorguide

Im going to invest in a new trolling motor for the upcoming season. I'm getting a 80lb thrust 24volt with the bulit in transducer... i just dont know what would be better.. Minnkota or motorguide.. i feel that they both are about the same... just wanna know what you guys think.. thanks

I'd go with the Minnkota. It just seems like those damn Motorguides are always breaking. Last year on my buddies boat we had a stripped gear, broken cable, and a busted switch on a year old Motorguide. My old Minnkota Maxxum that I sold to my stepdad (4yrs old) has never broken and he spends more time on the water than we did.

I have3 been buying trolling motors for the better part of 30 years. the2 best I have had were/are Motorguides, Next were a couple of MercuryThrusters, The 2 worst were a Minn Kota and a Bird Eagle.I will also add this. About 10 years ago I got tired of broken cables. I also realized that standing on 1 foot the better part of the tournamnet day was taking a tole on my fishing. I notriced that many pros like Dance,Houston and Martin were at that time using hand control motors, I switched to a hand control and have had absolutly 0 problems. I have added a kick attachment and a foot on off switch. Works great and I can keep both feet on the deck and also keep my shoulders square to the bait at all times. Fish2win

IMO it comes down to Ford vs. Chevy. You can find people who swear by each and swear at each.

I've got a 71 lb. 24 volt Motorguide and have been real happy with it.

One suggestion: Get rid of the in-line fuse and add a circuit breaker. MUCH easier to deal with if you have a problem.

MInn Kota's are heavier than Motor Guides. I've got the Minn Kota with the built in transducer hooked up to a Eagle 320. You will lose your ability to read temp with the built intransducer. I've had a MG and don't want another.

i have not had a problem with our minnkota trolling motor i wounldnt mind triing motor guide seeing it is a mercury product so it has to be good but i would still keep our minn kota awsome trolling motor

Ford, and Chevy as Reb already said. I think the Minnkota's are quieter though. And have had a few problems with my motorguides. But of course I beat the heck out of them too LOL.

Go with the kota, mine has the breakaway shaft, it does work. I fish an area w/ a lot of submerged trees, You hit one the shaft flexes.

Minn-Kota all the way. The motorguides I have been associated with have performed miserably. Bogged down in weeds, constantly breaking, etc. IMO the minn-kota is just a better all-around design.

I have a Minnkota on the boat because it was new last year. The old motorguide that has 5 years of use on it is hanging up in the shed. I think the motorguide has got more power than the Minnkota even though they are the same rating. The Minnkota was quieter when it was new, but after alot of use its no different than the motorguide.
