Default this is my new personal best

Hey guys, this is my new personal best. I caught it on a lake not to be named about 30 miles south of Little Rock Arkansas. 12.89 pounds, I know she looks bigger but I was holdin her a little close to the ol' camera. Mighty fine bass. She put up one heck of a fight. Caught her off an underwater ledge about 16 feet down with the ol' brown jig with a zoom trailer. Boy was she a hoss. Bass and a half boy, I'll tell you what. Git down on it boy. Git er' done.

They don't grow em' like that in Pennsylvania (well there may be a few). Anyway, congrats. I have never caught a hog that big and I am very envious.

NOTE: With a catch like that, you can retire for the season. Just hang your rod up and say, "I already caught a 12 pounder".

Okey Dokey smokey, so here i am in my 1996 ranger, 17 footer. I am checkin the depth finder looking for some structure. I had heard the bass were deep so i decided to only try casting shallow for a while. i used a 6 inch chompers watermelon colored worm at first. as i rigged up my worm on my offset gamakatsu hook, a rush of confidence flowed through me, today was the the day that i would land the mother of all hosses. i casted my worm out. let it sink to the bottom, and slowly began my pattented twitching retrieve. i reeled the worm all the way in without a hit. a few more casts brought the same result. but on the lucky 7th cast, i saw my line move laterally a little bit after the worm had sunk to the lake floor. i slowly reeled in slack until i felt the dead waight of a decent sized bass on the other end of my quantum accurist and st. croix rod. i brought the rod tip down and threw my hands and arms vertically towards the sky. in one smooth motion i set the hook and felt the decent sized sow on the other end. she swam straight away from me but i eventually horsed her in. it took me about 35 seconds. it turned out to be just about 5 pounds, i neglected to weigh her, she could have been a little bit more. i released it into the abyss and watched her swim away as free as an emacipated slave. i continued to fish shallow, but two hours worth yeilded me no bass. i decided to move deep. i trolled around until i found some bottom structure. i was extremely aroused at the bottom contours of the lake as i had never fished this body of water before. i watched the depth finder until i came up upon a seemingly weed choked drop off. it went from 10 to about 17 feet in a very fast decline. this was a prime spot for me. i put on a 3/8 ounce brown jig(i will not give out the manufacturer) and tipped it with a zoom trailer(brown). i threw it out a fair distance towards the drop off, as i had backed away from the structure earlier so i would be able to cast to it. boat positioning is everything. my first cast was a beauty. the jig sailed through the air like sparrow cutting through the cool spring air. the jig hit the water with a small, controlled splash. i waited until the jig reached the bottom. but before it did, i saw my line move ever so slightly, i would say the jig was about 3 feet off of the bottom at this point and maybe 10 feet under the surface of the water. as the line twitched a surge of adrenaline rushed through my body. the feelings i felt as my line moved unnaturally could only be duplicated by a high powered street drug. my mind was filled with joy and ecstacy as i reeled in slack to feel with seemed like a hooked shipwreck that i had accidentally casted in to. whatever was on the other end of my line was heavier than anything i have ever felt on a fishing rod. i proceeded to set the hook so hard that i felt i just my tear the very lips off of the monster that was the hoss on the end of my line. the hook set was solid. the feeling was orgasmic. i began to attempt to reel in the beast. it wouldnt budge. i trolled right over the top of it and began my feeble attempt to horse in the monster. i set my drag to a little bit more forgiving setting and let the beastly sow have its way with me. it swam uncontrollably in a blind rage. i didn't think i would ever land the monster. my 14 pound test was on the verge of snapping with every contortion of the bass' body. the beast started to beeline towards the cover of the shallows. i let it run and waited for her to slow down. eventually it did start to decrease its pace, it was then that i decided to make my move. i pulled hard on my rod in an attempt to bring the sow back towards me. she was beginning to give in! i trolled towards the holstein, in order to try to lessen the difficulty of the fight. i began to reel in vigorously in my final attempt to land the huge slab of beef. she slowly ascended to the surface. i peered into the water to try to catch a glimpse of the whale. it eventually showed itself. it emerged from the water in all of its gargantuan glory. upon seeing goliath, i was nearly sent into a mild heart attack as my heart skipped about 4 beats. i plunged my hand into the sow's mouth with wreckless abandon. i lifted the fish out of the water. and brought it over my boat. the weight of the fish in my hand rivaled that of a small economy car. as quick as a wink i dehooked the trophy and set it into the livewell. i had conquered the beast. i was the gladiator and the fish was my opponent in the roman colleseum that was represented by the lake. i drove towards shore and immediately trailered my boat. i started yelling in a war cry that i had never even heard before. soon enough a small crowd of people around the dock gathered around me. i climbed into my boat and revealed to the crowd the obnoxiously gargantuan largemouth bass. the crowd cheered and whistled at me in sheer enjoyment. i went to the dock and put the fish on the scale that was set up there. 12.89 pounds, read the digital screen. it was my new personal best. a fish of a lifetime.

Congrats, that is a real Hawg! Just wondering why all the secretive stuff. Won't name the lake or name the jig? Again congrats, hope you catch several more.

Only when I go, the locals can't seem to catch anything other than a few small specks. Specks by the way, are what these southerners call crappie.

Speck is more a Florida term I think. We call crappie, crappie here. Plus it can get confusing since to me specks could just as easily mean speckled trout.

Another confusing nickname; Jack Salmon.
