Default bronze eye frog

i was wondering if anybody has used the new bronze eye frog made by spro? i bought 2 of them and they are a little expensive ($8). but man, dean rojas did a great job designing this baby. they weigh 5/8 oz. so they cast awesome and when you twitch your rod tip and reel on your retrieve the front of the frog comes out of the water and then slaps it when it comes down making a great sound. i have used a lot of different frogs but i have found a favorite nevermind the price.

So has anyone used them yet. I always favored the tournament series Scum frogs cause they sit with there butts lower in the water. Before I go spending 8 bucks on a frog I would like to know if they are worth it or just keep using my ole scum frog and sharpen up the hooks. I have also seen where they are now selling the gammy replacement hook for the frogs. Anyone tried it yet.

yeah i have used mine. i think it is till a little early here but i couldn't wait anylonger so i used them a little. have caught a few fish but i can't wait to see how this baby works when the water warms up. if it helps you with your decision i haven't missed a fish on it and hook ups have always been a problem with frogs. and i can't say enough about the action these little dudes have. awesome bait!!!

to improve the hook ups take a pair of pliers and bend up the hook a little it improves the hookups by 50 %

laser to tell you the truth i haven't put it side by side with the origional scum frog to compare how they sit in the water but now that i think of it i will do that. anyways the butt does sit in my opinion reasonably low. i am not easily impressed with baits, especially high dollar baits. don't own a lucky craft bait at all just because of the principal of the whole idea makes me mad. but so far i am very excited about this little critter and i think you would be too.

frogfisher, just cause you got a bit eon a different lure doesn't mean you're fishing it wrong or that it is bad. Every lures has its day.

I have used the Bronzeye Jrs. and love them. My favorite hollow body frog. I've got a yeller one for the day and a black un for when it gets darker. I'd like to get some of the original size and more colors too.

I see this is an old thread.

I love the Spro Bronze Eye frog. I've caught a pile of bass on it with my best going 6+ lbs. I've caught at least a couple each in my last 2 tournaments on a black one. I'll fish black all day. The 2 I caught Sat. were in a large pad field and both were in the middle of a sunny day. They work!!! I use the Jr. model. My 2 favorite colors are black and Tropical White. Don't think for a minute if it's a cloudless, hot day that they won't hit that frog in the middle of the day. I've had more hit it then than in the morning.

I agree with you bassaddict. I fish a lake that has a very large pad field(sic) and they hit all day long. I do prefer the horny toad over the hollow body frogs. Also, for throwing back deep into the pads I like to use the Strike King rat. That is where I make sure I am using 50lb. Power Pro.

Im also a big fan of the spro frogs in green/black. Ive caught a bunch of fish this year on them, lowrider posted a few picutes a while back when the frog bite first turned on here. I have a green and black one that looks like it has been attacked by sandpaper, it has caught so many fish havn't lost or broken one yet.

* Tip, You can squeeze the body of the frog and fill it with water, wich makes it slowly sink then work it just under the surface.

I also am a fan of the Rage Tail Toads for when they want a faster presentation. They make a wake

man this is an old post. my opinion on a lot of things have changed since then. for one, i have come to realize that a lot of the high dollar baits like lucky craft are at times (but not always) a lot better than the run of the mill cheaper baits. but one thing that is the same is my opinion on the bronze eye frog. over 2 years after that origional post and i still consider this bait as my favorite frog. another thing that has changed is now 2 years later, $8 for a bait isn't that high anymore.
