Default Four fish and a trip to the ER later...

Well, went out with my next door neighbor for a couple of hours-real windy, so we went upwind and drifted back along a rock bank throwing crankbaits. Caught four and missed one on a wacky rig. Decided to try a suspending jerkbait. Bent over to pick that rod up just at the same time a boat wake rocked the boat and ran one tine of a real sharp treble hook into my right index finger up to the bend in the hook. We are talking deep here. So, cut the split ring to get the hook off the lure and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to remove the hook headed in. The doc numbed the finger up and had to use a scalpel to get the hook out. She thought it was so hard to get out because it went in to the bone. Ouch! Not a fun way to end a fishing trip, but it beat not going !

Now THAT doesn't sound like a fun day on the water! Well, the catching fish sounds good, but not the hook in the finger part.

So it will be a slow typing day for you?

Well at least it wasn't in your lips LOL. When I first started to read it I thought something worse had happened, like you fell on the trolling motor and hurt your back or something. Sorry for the OUCH , but wakes can create havoc if you're not prepared for them. Glad it was just a little sore finger, and nothing worse, put a rubber glove on, and go back to fishing.

That sucks, did the same thing with a big musky hook in Canada when I was young. Same thing, had to numb the finger and cut it out. Only benefit was a great looking female MD. Held my head in her chest to cut it out so I couldn't see it. Man, they dont practice medicine like that anymore.

ahhh come on now. it was just your thumb. the guide my dad and I used last week was telling us of a trip down in the keys where he was guided a small group. One of them managed to get a hook through there hat and into their skull. They unsucessfully tried to get it out. The victem decided to just cut the hook from the lure and leave it in. The guide offered to take them back in to shore and the guy said naw, I came out to fish. He was more upset about not being able to move his hat as it was hooked to his skull.

Been there and done that 2 times. It really messes up a good day on the water. Both times it happened to me I was taking a Smallmouth off the hook of a Rapala when they slipped out of my hand lodgeing a hook in a finger to deep to get out with out the aid of doctor. The odd thing is that it really didnt hurt that bad. Cranky, he isn't using a hammer, he was using a nail gun. All ya have to do is get your hand in the way and squeeze the trigger and it's done.

kicker your right..i use to build pallets with a nail gun. nailing new stuff togather is not bad but we recycle the old pallets and nailing into boards with a nail gun at a high rate of speed that have nails already in them tend to have the nails flying out every which way..

I am glad your alright, but You sound like you enjoy going to have this woman inflict more pain on you ? Did you see Bassin TX lady at the hospital ? Just how big is Texas ?Why do you torture your self to go to see this woman doctor ? It would be cheaper to ask her out to a dinner date, than to keep doing things like that to see her for a E.R. visit ? Sorry, I have to pick on you when I get the chance. Its not everyday I get to do so.BTW If it don't get better get your @ss back there to see her again. P N J
