I'm new to the forum, so please pardon me if this is in the wrong folder...
My father and I have fished Rainy Lake each summer for several years, and have noticed a decline in the quality of the fishing. We are considering a new destination for this August. Smallies will be the target species, but we are not picky when it comes to tight lines. Quality will trump quantity if it comes to that. I'd like this place to be within 6 or 7 hours driving time from the Minneapolis airport. Nice cabins with an American meal plan are ideal. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum!
We've got a couple guys from Ontario here-they might be able to help you out.

No better place for huge smallmouths than
lake st. clair or lake erie, both are well known for 4-6 lb smallmouths..we like to ferry the bass boat over to middle bass island on lake erie and fish with tubes , twister tails for football size small mouth |

I have never been on Lake St.Clair, but it is only an hour away so I might make it over there this year. It is also supposed to be about the best muskie lake around.
I went to Torch Lake last summer with my buddy in his 26' pleasure boat and that is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. I didn't get to fish much since we were not set up for such a lake. It is over 300' deep and I have heard good things about the smallies in there. |

White tube baits are killer at st. clair. The downside to lake st. clair
is all the boat traffic, you won't believe it |
