Default First bass of 2006

I caught my first bass of the year today. I caught 3 largemouth all within a hours time on a Rapala DT-6 crankbait , Parrot color. They weren't big , biggest was 14" long, but it was good to be able to boat a bass again, even though bass season doesn't open for another 2 1/2 months. I fished for 3 hours out on the main lake with nothing doing. The water temperature was 41 degrees.I ran up in a feeder creek and the water was stained from the run off ,the temp was 47 degrees in the creek, quite a change from the main lake.I fished jigs and tubes with no results, then tied the crank on and caught the 3.I would have never guessed a crankbait would catch fish in 47 degree water temperature when a jig or a tube bait wouldn't. I have got a lot more learning to do. P N J

congratulations!!!hopefully ny state will be catch and realease next season.the present law is totally retarded.guys go out and fish for trout and catch bass and gut hook them with live bait and that's ok by ny state.so if we go and fish a crankbait (which will catch many different species) we have to say we are trout fishing.considering that both new jersey and conn and mass are open seasons and don't suffer i think the ny state law is rididculous.many of www.nybass.com 's members have written to the state to try and change this.as far as i know it was looking good as of today.

Dodge, A few years ago My region (region 8) had catch and release that started May 1st. I took the time to pick up and fill out a catch and release survey form and took pictures of the bass I caught and sent it in hoping to get a positive outlook for future catch and release seasons in other regions as well, but I heard absolutely nothing back, the following year was not a catch and release for my region ? I emailed the DEC and got no response back , or a explaination as to why they quit it already ? P N J

OK Ivan, always good to get that first one under your belt. I got mine in 41* water on a Jointed Rapala.

No, I didn't get a canoe. I really want one badly but there's a personal issue standing in the way.

Hemlock I only fished once and that was about 30 years ago.

We can fish this summer if you don't mind getting your a$$ whipped!
