Default GOOD MOUNTING SIZE?

What do you consider good mounting size? Â*I'm not one of these that has mounted animals on every wall, but since I am single I can do my house however I want.

I have decided that I won't mount anything under 10 pounds. Â*My biggest to date is 9.5. Â*I know in California they are pulling them out of the trout-fed lakes 18, 19 and 20 lbs. Â*But I'm from Mississippi. Â*10+ is huge around here.

Anybody mount anything smaller than that?

most around here mount at 10 pounds, some will do it as far down as 7. Personally I won't take a picture if under 10 pounds and won't consider mounting if under 15.

depends on your area but. for me personally 10 pound large mouth,4-5 pound spot, and 5 -6 pound smallie. would grace my wall. the only problem i have is finding the space. 19 deer mounts takle up a very large amount of space. not to mention the rest of the dead critters i have hanging on the wall. my brother is a taxadermist .

I would think age has alot to do with whether you should mount her or not ? If the size bothers you, don't let her buy you any more beers or you will be hating your self in the morning. ???

I think who you are makes a big difference. My Mom got a 2 1/2 pound smallie mounted - now for any of us that would be a joke, but for Mom, well that 2 1/2 smallie was the best she will probably ever catch.

My best catches to date

LMB 14.2lbs
SM 4.9lbs
Spotted 4.7lbs

I would not get any replicas

LMB 15lbs
SM 5lbs
Spot 7lbs

Mounts don't appeal to me, either real or replica.

Couple of years ago, a tackle shop owner told me he had a guy come in to have a 16" LM mounted.

Personally for me it has to do with the beer meter. I really don't care for anything over 300lbs, so far my beer meter hasn't ever reached that weight class yet. Of course age always makes a difference, legal age only

That's for sure. I'm 22 and orange is not a good color for me.

(Unless it is chartreuese and orange with a double colorado blade set, in muddy water.)

I've got a 7 lber mounted, here in Indiana thats a nice fish! If I catch a 10 lber , I'll have a replica made--no more killing fish.

replicas re TWICE as expensive as a regular mounts. and do not match the fish right. they are the the "average" fish. not YOUR fish. the fish that is not adviseable to skin mount are any salt water fish. and a cat fish. the oils in the skin leech out and the cat fish/salt water fish look like they have been bleached. if you taxidermest is good. tell him you want the"wet look" they put a high gloss finish in the fish so that it looks like a freshly caught fish. remember people ffish right now cost $8 bucks and inch-skin mount-and $16 and inch per replica. according to my brother there is no less than 35 differant colors in a bass. the paint is some high end stuff. it comes out to $5 per inch in paint alone. not to mention it takes 50-60 hours from start to finish to actuly mount the fish then 3 days of drying time.
more on bigger fish.

I'm glad replicas have become popular and some like them - it will help save some big bass. Not every huge bass needs to be put back though, lets be honest - big bass are already over the hill - by the time they get to be 10 pounds they have maybe a couple years left and then they take the long float upstream to bass fisherman heaven - so killing a few and mounting them doesn't hurt that much if they are really big.

And lets all be honest, skin mounts are about twice as good looking, more original and unique and they are the real thing - the fish you caught. A replica says nothing, hell people have had replicas made before of fish they never caught.

I would say around 5'4 125 LBS should be the ticket.
