Bass on the nest will be hear in a few weeks, I try to throw a plastic past the bed and not hop or jig it, but rather crank slowly to ease the plastic into the bed, let it set in hopes they will pick it up to move it.
Anyone else have any techniques to share on bedding bass? Heres a male smallie guarding the egg embryo's That I have circled |

dont get to close to them and don't let your shadow cover them up. be quiet.
also vary your lures. try tubes, crawdad lures, maybe even small swim baits. just vary your lures to find out which lure will trigger the fish hope this helps |

I agree with buzzbait, he covered alot. About the only other thing I can think of is if you know the fish isn't very skiddish and is going to stay on the bed, try hitting him on the side with your lure, it'll tick him off and he'll smash your bait after a while. Its worked many times for me.

bedding bass are harder to catch because they strike your lure out of aggression more than anything else, so you miss more hits than any other time. So try using something with just more than one hook.

Take a floating worm, and hook it on a 4/0 barbless worm hook. Cast it out, swim it onto the bed, and let it sit there until big momma hits it.
Crawl a lizard onto the bed, try to imitate an egg stealing salamander. Fish a small ratltrap right off the bed, the male might be lurking, and hit it to protect his wife from the dirty bream. Thats all I got.

I hooked 4 of them today with a tube. I eased it into the bed and just shook it and pissed him off untill he hit. I never could get momma to come though.

you'll notice how often the bluegills get chases out of the bed if you sit back and watch....many times the circles of beds are one after another, several rows deep on sandy banks

JB funny you said that. Two beds I was fishing today had bluegills come by and the little males would chase there azz's about 10 yards and come right back. It was quite amusing actually.
