Events Cancelled As Crews Search For Drowning Victim
A day full of events planned for the first day of Memorial Day Weekend at Caesar Creek State Park has been cancelled after tragedy struck Friday.
Thousands were expected to visit the beach at Caesar Creek State Park (near Waynesville, Ohio) this Saturday but instead search crews and the family and friends of a drowning victim are the only ones there now. On Friday afternoon a man in his 20s disappeared after he went under water while he was swimming with a group. Tim Carr, regional park manager, told 9News that Saturday's events were on hold in respect for the victim's family, who are waiting on word of his recovery. He told 9News that the beach may reopen once they find the victim though. 9News has a crew on the scene |

Denny and me fish caesars creek ,and for as long as I can remember someone about every year or 2 goes swimming beyone the beach area in water that is too cold, and drowns. I bet being a memorial weekend, thousands of boaters won't be on the lake, its usually Daytons playground for water leisure..
Denny caught that muskie at Caesars back in march with me ..scary! |

Unfortunately that is a pretty common occurance in this neck of the woods-seems like it happens every 2-3 weeks.

Round here too. We get some bad rips, and people get dragged out and found two days later 80 miles south. It's sad.

The body of a missing man who was feared to have fallen into the Ohio River Sunday night has now been recovered.
Search and rescue crews found the body near the Queen City Riverboat Landing in Dayton, Kentucky. His wife called police after he didn't show up at a set meeting point on the landing last night. |

I saw something sad this weekend. The old canal I fish claimed the life of a 9 year old girl. She drowned in February. She must have fallen through the ice. They marked the sight with a cross. I live on the Monogahela River and I am a fireman. I have been on many search and river rescues. Most drownings on this river result from someone swimming or jumping from the bridges. The Yough river which empties into the Mon. are mainly from boat captsizings. The Yough rises fast and gets treacherous. All you guys please wear a life saving device as I am sure you do. Especially when underway.
