My uncle who is a serious bass fisherman and has a ton of tackle. But instead of carrying around a large expensive tacklebox he carries around an old pal tackle box made by Plano. It is packed full of stuff, he switches the stuff inside depending on where he is fishing. Does anybody else do this? If you do, would you recommend it to other people

I'm a non-boater and, as such, have tried to minimize the amount of space my toys occupy as well as reduce weight. I still, however, carry from 8-12 rods, depending on anticipated needs.
I've recently downsized my tackle bag, switching to one that holds 5 3600 series boxes in the main compartment. I bought two of the zippered pouches with interchangeable zip-lock bags and carry them by stringing them on the main bags shoulder strap. The front and side pouches, so well as the mesh pouch on the back, carry smaller items as needed. I carry a soft insulated lunch bag for water, Gatorade(TM), light snacks, with odds and ends and cell phone in the front pouches thereon. Before every trip, I make changes in the tackle I carry, according to location, season, and previous experiences based on those factors and have a "filing" system for my stored stuff so I can make the changes rapidly. Takes me about an hour of decision and indecision ![]() F. Rod Detail Freak |

I have a friend who uses garbage bags. That is all he uses in his bass boat.He says we are getting ripped off buying tackle packs and trendy crap like that. Something more you can spend money on is all it is.You can count on the weather taking its toll on them, having to wipe your gear down and let your tackle packs dry out after a day of fishing in the rain.I have thought him to be crazy, but you know, I have been packing my tackle packs in garbage bags.It started out as a joke when he asked me to go fishing, but when we got caught in a rain storm that day, it was the first time I didn't have to go through and dry everything in my tackle pack once I got home.

Back in the 80's I used to see guys carry these worm bags that would roll up to about the size of a sleeping bag, and once unrolled was about 6 ft.
long...they had so many bags of worms stuffed in there from shows, that they usually couldn't even remember 90% of the stuff they had rofl |

i use 2 differant bags as a rule a 3700 extreme and a 3600 extreme. 3700 7plano pro latches is full of hard baits. the 3600 6 plano and a 3560 pro latch boxes is full of plastic baits the 3560 is my terminal tackle box.
i switch out as needed. i may be a 1/2 azz but my tackle is very well organized. every 3 trips i normally go thru it and reorganize it.. zooker

I use two different bags and a big plastic tub for soft baits. I have all my 3600's labled so i can grab whatever I need. The big plastic tub let's me move around all the bags easily. I know that doesn't have any order but it works for me. That is what I carry on my boat. Any other fishing such as walking the river bank or whatever calls for one bag or my waist tackle belt. I just take what I feel i need then. My old metal tackle boxes are stored with all the walleye tackle I used ti fish with.

I usually only fish at two different places on a regular basis.
At home I have a small tackle box full of stuff but I usually only bring a zip lock bag full of different plastics, a few hooks, and a bottle of scent. This easily fits in my pockets. (I like to travel lite) At my cabin I have several boxes of crap I spread out on a table not far from where I fish and grab what ever I need while fishing. |

I used to have a very large BPS bag that held six of the biggest things bass pro had. Last year, I involuntarily downsized to a plano 3600. ( I think.)

I'll vouch for Lizards too! Almost no room in the boat for me
![]() I carry a soft sided box filled with 4 3700's which carry my hard baits and terminal tackle. I throw bags of my soft baits in the small plastic grocery bags with handles. Easy to carry and you can stuff a lot in there. Then just pack what I need or anticipate using each trip. ![]() |

I have one bag with 6 3600s for only soft plastics, then a box with 4 smaller containers for jigs, topwater, terminal tackle, and my most used cranks. Then another 3 3700s and 1 smaller one under the front deck with more cranks and jerk baits.
My friend cleaned out his boat one time and took out over 300lbs. of tackle that had accumulated over time, he gained some top end speed from that too. |

and i thought i was the only person taking tackle boxes full of fishing lures, etc. i nearly thought i was mentally ill with my compulsion to do so, and to continue to purchase more stuff, more stuff than i can ever use on a day of fishing. i spend more time changing lures than actually presenting the bait.
i recognize the problem i have, but you know, being half crazy about something you enjoy doing, is not a bad thing. and yes, my wife thinks i truly am crazy and thinks i should spend more time with her and help around the house too. i says, it fishing time, nuff said. |
