Well, the weather is getting hot but the fishing has been just as hot. The top water bite is up and down. Some mornings are better than others and some are just no bite. Find grass and wood and 6 to 8 foot of water and start your top water fishing. Frogs and Pop’r type baits are the best choice.
The deep bite has been strong with some nice fish being caught. The Lake Fork Tackle Baby Creature and Baby Ring Fry have been good on the Carolina rig and Texas Rigs. Humps and points have been the best areas to work these baits. Use your electronics to find the bait and fish and work the baits as slow as possible. The fish have wanted the baits pulled very very slow. The lake is falling everyday and if rain don’t come soon we will be lower than last year. We are about 3 foot low. There has been some schooling off and on and keeping a lipless crank bait handy is a good ideal. The drop shot has been a good follow up on the deep fish. A Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worm fished wacky on the drop shot has worked well. The crappie have been up and down. The timber has been the best area for bigger fish. Find 20 to 30 foot of water and work down from 12 to 18 feet. The crappie have been very shallow this past week. Small minnows have been the best bait. Jigs will work once you have found the fish. Colors you will have to play with till you find the right one. Drop straight down so you want hang up as much. Jim Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
