Default Going to the nearby river...

I've decided to go to the local landing to see what I can catch this afternoon.

Mega cold front right now, after a couple weeks of 80-90 degree weather, the water is in the 60's, but that's dropping fast thanks to an air temperature of 45 degrees (thanks Arlene!) The largemouth are probably spawning by now, although they could abandon their beds if the water drops too quickly.

So I'm going to the river in hopes of getting smallmouth, striper, trout, salmon, whatever there is! I'm hoping the fish will be shallow, I just hope the cold air doesn't make the surface too cold for their comfort. Then again, trout like the cold.

Anyone have any good ideas on what to use for lures? Hopefully a lure that will not only attract the smallmouth, but the others as well? Maybe a spoon? Small plastic worm? ???

I'll bring the digital camera just in case something nice comes.

the water temp shouldnt change much.....but the barometric pressure is gunna do you in. they will have lockjaw.......so fish really close to cover/structure....and make multiple casts to one spot......also you might have to try for a reaction strike 8)

The bass will most likely be lethargic so fish tighter to cover, downsize lure, downsize line, and slow down. Be sure to make a natural presentation. Live bait may be more productive than artificial lures because bass examine their food closely often ignoring everything but the real thing.

Well I went over for a bit, and actually saw active feeding fish! I couldn't tell what kind they were, but there where schools of them, decent sized fish, flashing around under the water and making splashes at the surface.

Natrually I decided to try some topwaters... poppers, buzzbaits, a jittermouse, nothing. So then I burned a slug-go under the surface (twitching it very fast to keep it up there) to go for a quick strike and had nothing.

I wasn't alone, many others were over there and getting nothing as well. Oh well, thanks for the tips guys.
