First off, only 12-13% of people in the US are black, so that narrows it down a good bit first. Secondly, look at where the majority of black people in the country live, large cities. Fishing largely isn't available to most people that live in urban areas. Also in some places, they'll just mostly fish for food. A lot of people I know around here fish, but they don't do it that often and they keep everything they catch, black and white alike. I know a few black people that fish for sport just like any of us on this board, its just the laws of statistics that keep more black people from fishing like we do. This is just like any other racial question in america, and its not easy to answer. BTW this probably should have been on the message boards or non-fishing related areas.

Hula got it. I believe we have a few african-americans on the board, and there are definitely black bass fisherman out there.

Have you asked your black friend the same question? He should have some interesting insights.
I think HulaPopr had some good observations. There are also clearly cultural differences. Blacks are over-represented in things like basketball, football and certain track-and-field events, while they are under-represented in hockey, golf, bowling, and have been sharply declining in baseball. For reasons unknown, they are extremely under-represented in virtually all outdoor activities, such as water, ice and snow sports, plus birding, backbacking, canoeing, hiking, butterfly watching, sport fishing and many others.
