OK,
I know the basics. Bring what I am familiar and confident in. Top water is good in the morning, but don't be afraid to switch to find out what works. Match the hatch. Given that, I am curious what your opinions are on WHERE I should fish this particular lake. I generally don't fish in the morning (due to being at work) but tomorrow is a special instance. We are going out at 4:30 am (on the water at 4:30) and fishing till about 8 am. This lake isn't particularly deep it gets 15-19 feet in some areas but the most part its shallower. 4-8 feet within 10 feet of shoreline. Last week we had a pretty good thunderstorm and since then its cooled down a bit. Its been low to mid 80's the last 3 days. My forecast for Tuesday is 50% chance of rain (have heard later in the day). Its supposed to be 69 by AM and 72 by 8 am. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/48879?dayNum=1 Heres a topo map: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=...98&datum=nad83 I guess I am asking what (if any) sides of small islands I should fish. If there is any particular structure that does better this time of morning this time of year. West side of lakes generally better than east or north? Or is taht not even a 'rule' persay. We have a small 13 foot aluminum voat with trolling motor, and its a no wake lake. So we cant really skip across the lake to another area to quick. This happens so rarely for us I figured I would throw this out there for any of your opinions on where. Thanks a bunch

take any area that has a point with a creek channel nearby, and throw a wacky rigged senko or tiki right to the bank, that was the pattern here all weekend, on a lake similiar to the one you show...good luck!

With any lake you will find all the visual clues will point to an island any island in fact. Most fishermen key in on things like that. So twelve hundred fisherman have fished that island. About 90% of the fishermen on that lake have fished it I would bet. I would not however instead I would choose the shaded south side of the lake and fish the feeder creek mouth that comes under the road on the south side of the lake. That would be my first choice..Early morning long shadows and a topwater.

For some Lake Ovid tips check out this place: http://www.greatlakesbass.com/forum/index.php since it is local to us. Here is a link to an Ovid thread. I have never been there though. Also I am an armchair fisherman right now working 14-16 hour days 7 days a week and being in Canada for work all last week.

Thanks Bender for turning me on to that. I know that that lake gets fished pretty hard. Lots of time I cant even find a spot to fish from shore. On top of that its not to deep.
We ended up out there at 4:30 am. I tried topwater with absolutely no action. It ranged from Black Jitterbug at various speeds, to a topwater rebel, and even a horney toad. Then I switched out to a couple various worm rigs and about 7:30 they turned on. I think all in all we caught 9-10 bass varioous sizes. I think the biggest was probably 17-18 inches it spit up a smaller fish in our boat. I have a pic and will post it on thursday. Plastic seemed to do the magic in the reeds on the north end. My buddy forgot to charge the battery so I oared us home starting a little after 9 am. Let me tell you he also broke an oar when he pulled the boat out that morning so I oared us back with just one oar. I did however insist he fished while I did that to 'optimize' our time on the water. We had plans with the wives later that day and if we were going to get 'in trouble for fishing the whole time' then we might as well have been fishing the whole time! All in all it was a memorable day to say the least.
