Re: anybody fish for stripers?
If you have never been striper fishing, then a guide is going to be the best way to go. Those guides know where to catch them and can put you on them.
You need to shop around a little before you do it though. Don't go with the very first person that tells you they can put you on them. Anyone can say they are a guide, but that doesn't mean they are going to catch anything. One way to find one is go to google and type in "fishing guides" followed by the state you live in. Another way is to ask around at the bait shops for a good guide service. I hope this helps you out. |

Re: anybody fish for stripers?
Stripers are incredibly fun when they are biting. A 10+ lb striper puts up such a huge fight.
Up here on the coast and tidal rivers, striper are very popular. There are guides, but I've never used one. Instead, when I get on a boat, we use a depth finder to see how deep the water is, then simply run stuff near the bottom. When the water is cool, fish in shallow water, however, later in the year when the water becomes warm, go over deeper water. Also, if there are bluefish in the area, WATCH OUT! Just like pickerel are similar to bass in diet and habitat, blues are similar to striper. And blues have teeth. Do. Not. Lip. A. Blue! |

ya but the good thing is, the blue fish arnt to bad to eat. so you can make a meal of it if they are in slot. but if you are fishing a lake then you wont have to worry about bluefish, they are saltwater species.

Re: anybody fish for stripers?
peacock fishin in south america? if so then i would pick that ANYDAY over striper. peacock bass fishing is a blast so i've seen. and they grow very big. and they are a good fish for topwater. they even have peacocks dowh here in florida, but you have to go to the miami area and south to get them. they dont grow as big as the ones in south america tho.

02,
They sure are predominantly saltwater, but there is a landing off where you can catch them in a (tidal) river here that is fresh water. Smallmouth bass live in this section as well, so the salt level must be very low... smallmouth are fussy. |

yeah we have smallmouth in our lakes here as well. they are a blast. i think that stripers would be fun also but i am still leaning towards going peacock bassin.

Re: anybody fish for stripers?
oh yeah a striper is alot of fun on any tackle. of course if you are in a tva resevoir they also have hy-brids. which hands down will put up a fight and a half. strper tend to do deep in warmer water and get lock jaw during daylight hours in really hot water. here they troll, stroll, and drift for them. how ever i like to catch them on top water at night. nothing like a screaming drag YEAHAAA!!!

tidal water is linked with the ocean. so its more then likely that theres is some brakish water there. not to likely you will find them all the way into the river where its all fresh.
