What type of knot do you tie your buzzbaits with? I heard they're great for smallmouth bass so I bought one today, and am just wondering if there is a special type of knot before I go out and fish with it.
thanks, donnie

Donnie, shouldn't this be on the new angler board? And your question about crankbaits as well?

ditto with wtl,but just tie a regular knot on it like a palomar or improved clinch.

Whatever knot you normally use will work. I use either a Palomar or Trilene knot. One thing I cannot recommend strongly enough when fishing a buzzbait is to use a trailer hook. You'll be surprised the number you get on the trailer.

YBM, I'm away from my home computer so I can't post a picture, so I'll attempt to describe it.
A trailer hook is a hook that is added to the main hook mostly to catch short strikers. You can get hooks sold as trailer hooks, but all you need is a hook with an eye big enough for the point of the main hook to go through. Take the trailer hook and put the point of the main hook through the eye, with the hook pointing up like the main hook. Then you need a hook keeper. Those sold as trailer hooks come with pieces of rubber tubing you push down on the main hook to hold the trailer in place. I just use a piece of plastic from a coffee can lid-I use a hole punch on it, take one of the disks, and punch the point of the main hook through the center of the disk and slide it down the bend of the main hook. Some take the rubber tube that comes with the hooks and push it on to the eye of the trailer hook and then punch the point of the main hook through the tubing and the eye of the hook, but that can cause a problem: The hook may end up off center which can cause it to get hung up. I prefer a free-swinging hook which the plastic disk allows it to do.

You can rig the hook upsides down too, I heard this on Another forum and have read it in 3 bass books, so it must work.

Check out the great resource mack posted about knots, and use any of the "line to lure" knots.
