i've been watching and minding my own business, but it's time to vent again.here in jersey a boater is required to have a boat operator's license and they are required to take a boater safety course and carry the credentials that they have successfully completed the course.and i have absolutely no problem with that.
here's the problem...boat rentals....at a local reservoir they rent boats..to anyone!.. i have had quite a few problems with this.first of all, when they rent the boats nobody instructs them on safety or courtesy.i have seen boatloads, and i mean like 5 or 6 people in a 14ft boat that have come close to having serious accidents.these people will come within 3 or 4 ft of you at full throttle(which isn't that fast, but too fast for them) almost hit you and have to swerve at the last minute.i am not talking isolated incidents here.this happens almost every weekend. the water level has dropped about 4 feet and still dropping.there are some serious rockpiles just below the surface near the shoreline.i have had these people come between the shoreline and my boat and hit rockpiles.when i try to warn them they smile and wave..they don't speak english so they have no idea what i'm yelling to them.i don't see how they can be told about boating safety when they don't understand english. just yesterday i had a boat rental employee(a kid)come flying between the shoreline and my boat.he didn't even look at me or he would have seen me motioning that i had my line out..ran right over my line as i couldn't reel in fast enough.all i could do was watch as this idiot pulled off about 100yds of 50lb powerpro.my only consolation is that hopefully this stuff will destroy the seal in the lower unit and it will blow.now this was a rental boat so it will probably end up costing the taxpayers for the repairs.at that point i was really agitated. then there's 3 boat rental employees(kids)in rental boats playing some game with a volleyball.one kid on the dock would throw the ball out and the 3 in the boats would go after it.running around in circles hitting each other.i fired off an e-mail to the powers that be this a.m. but i don't expect much. also yesterday(wish i had a camera for this one)i saw 4 women, wrapped head to toe.all you could see were their faces.they came within 2ft of my boat and didn't even look at me.they were jabbering in some language i'm not familiar with yelling at each other, not even watching where they were going and almost hit a sailboat. then one of the employees(a kid again)from the boat rentals slammed into a rockpile.again i tried to warn him it was there but he didn't even look at me.i saw him tilt the motor up after he hit to check it out.i guess it was OK because he took off and hit another rockpile, again he tilted up the motor to check it and then went off into the sunset. my point is...why would guys that have been operating boats for years, guys who know what they're doing,be required to take the boater safety course, and then they just let any lunatic rent a boat? makes about as much sense as the pa.law that says you have to wear a seatbelt in a car,but you don't need a helmet on a motorcycle. i'm venting again...theses are rhetorical questions....here's the soapbox,i'm done.

our local res. has boat rentals too, and the biggest complaint i see is the drinking on the water, or swimmng..however the richmond police patrol it and get on the bull horn to ticket the renters...perhaps you can call the cops in nj

not everyone that rents a boat is gonna be like that.....whenever we get one we always stay away from others.......these people sound like true dumb basses. One problem is it seems is that they are letting kids rent and play in boats by themselves....should be at least 18 before you can take one out......that sucks for you guys!

Tommy,Don't let them rain on your parade. Its all about Bass fishing. Everyone else is just another obstacle on the lake. You will excel, if you can avoid dwelling on the distractions and focus on bass fishing.Eliminate the ecological part of the equasion, form your thoughts on whats happening in the water your fishing, Become one with the fish, but if they insist on raining on your parade, take them out of the equasion by any means necessary.Lmao.......P N J

Yesterday I was fishing a lake where they rent canoes and boats. I saw this guy coming in a canoe and wondered where he was going. He came near the shore, between my boat and the shore, but still 150 feet from me. I saw him thrashing about and was puzzled but I knew what was coming. He went over and another canoer asked if he was O.K. and he was so they started laughing at him. I just smirked and moved to a different location, but it was really funny. You do have to wonder what the hell people are thinking sometimes.

I was at six flags yesterday, and just about every person in line annoyed me. Does that count?

Tom, You earned the right to be irritated and grumpy. It was bound to happen, especially the amount of time you spend out on the water.

Tom, just sink there boats LOL. Well I have a little tid bit of info for all the boaters out there. Last weekend due to my back I fished from a pier. I was fishing for reds, or whatever would bite with my dad. The pier was side by side with a 1 boat launch. Due to the tide we were fishing on the boat launch side. I can't tell you how many inconsiderate boaters would just not care where are baits were, or even had enough sense to even look. This is a "FISHING PIER", set up for that purpose. I had a few jerks, that if I didn't reel in my bait would have had my line in their props. They all had plenty, and I mean plenty of room to avoid us, but chose not to. I did get upset, but just left it at just another lesson learned. Boaters can be a reel pain in the arse too. I always, and I mean always give the right away to others when I'm in my boat if they were there first. Many times I move to allow folks to fish where I am fishing, because you can tell they want to. This is also a true story, after catching my first 10+lber on a shiner, I had another boat that was just sitting off and waiting for me to move(it was obvious). I could've cared less, I just lifted anchor, and said have at it. This is one of the honey holes on that lake, and I had caught the biggest fish of my life at that point. I hope they caught another one just like it. Did I have to move, no. Did they ask me to move, no. But they showed enough courtesy to get my respect, and therefor my courtesy also. Fishing is fun, and courteous folks make it a lot more so. Even if your fishing a tourney, courteousy should be at the top of the list with every boat operator. If not, fights, and deadly accidents can occur.
