pegging your worm weight

they make just for pegging. i just usually use a toothpick on the rare occasions that i use weight.

Their are actually little bits of plastic you can buy to use for that, but I don't know where, lizards gave them to me.

I use the rubber strips to peg-not sure what they are called-or a rubber band. Tie a knot around your line with the rubber band, trim off the ends and slide it down the line.

thanks for the tip reb. the toothpick isnt such a good idea cause jamming a toothpick by your line will damage it.

the rubber pegs are ok BUT i use 1/16 or 1/8once weights they do not work in them -unless there tung.-i then use a tooth pick for them..

I peg one side of my wackys in the summer. 1/8 to 3/16oz. depending on how deep and how fast I want to fish. This time of the year I do not, just use a split ring off center to get the action i want and hold the hook in place.

Ahem...
The product is called "Peg-its" and they resemble long black straight pins in that they have a flat head on one end.
Insert the pointy end from the REAR of the slip sinker and draw it just tight enough to keep weight from sliding as you tie on your hook. Allow a couple of feet of line between weight and hook so as to facilitate easy tying. DO NOT trim Peg-it at this point.
Then, MOISTEN (saliva) the line and slide the weight and Peg-it down. BEFORE you reach the hook and knot, draw the Peg-it more tightly into the weight, trim off the flat head and all but a small portion of the plastic, then cinch the Peg-it further in so that it does not protrude into the concavity in the rear of the weight. Trim the excess protruding from the nose of the "bullet" BUT LEAVE about an eighth of an inch, mebbe a tad more, so that you can yank the Peg-it out of the weight when you are done with it.
Finish positioning the worm then cinch the weight down until the concavity covers the head of the worm, just barely touching it so as to both protect the knot and the worm, but not so far as to push the worm down on the hook.
ALWAYS moisten the line anytime you slide the weight/Peg-it up or down same.
Why the Peg-it(TM)? Well, A: Pegging your weights will, in most cases, make for fewer hangups and protect the worm/tube/lizard/whatevertheHell from being pushed down by obstacles.
B: Cramming a toothpick into the weight can easily damage your line, so use the Peg-it!

Note: Sadly, some of the popular tungsten weights have a hole so small that the Peg-it cannot be used...dang! You could remedy that by removing the sleeve found in most t'sten weights...DON'T DO THAT! The sleeve protects the line from the very hard and rough inner surface of the t'sten weight.

Rubber bands???? Hrmmmmph!

I use rubber bands and I also use the bobber stopper. It is a little round rubber bead that can be put on your line before you put a sinker on. You can pick these up at Bass Pro, Sportsman warehouse. they cost .99 for a pack of 10, they come in red or black beads

There are brands other than Peg-It's. Mojo weights usually come with some. I buy them by the hundred packs LOL. I don't ever t-rig with a bullet weight without one.

When I rarely use a weight I usually peg it by using a toothpick, they also make a weight with a spring thats built into it so you can screw it into the soft plastic, which I'll use in the salt.

I,ve been pegging weights for years and never had a problem. I fish lakes with a lot of stumps, logs, trees etc. Pegging the weight keeps me from getting hung up.
