Default Crankbait and Braid

I think I might be going Salmon fishing one more time this year. I'll probably be using crankbaits for the Salmon and I hear you shouldn't use crankbaits with braided line. I use 10 pound test mono otherwise. If my drag is set properly, will I be able to reel in a Salmon without my line breaking, or should I just use braided line?

Thanks

Julien

Where are you going salmon fishing. The reason i ask is because my dad has a salmon boat in northern illinois.

when we troll for salmon all we use is 8# line early in the year and then switch to 12# line, and we just play the fish insead of just horsing them in. So i think 10# will be fine as long you play the fish. Also what size and kind are you fishing for.

J-the reason mono is preferred for crankbaits is it stretches, where braid won't. The stretch of mono helps keep the hooks from tearing out of the fish's mouth. For salmon fishing I don't think you would have a problem using braid.

i dont think that he will have a problem either, just as long as his rod has enough tip action.

I'll be going to Grant Park. I go for 10 - 20 lbs. Usually the fish that are in that specific spot are around 13 lbs. I've already got the 10 pound test mono on my reel, so I think I'll stick with that.

I agree with Skeeter, but I use power pro with a mono leader on a 7.5 ' crank bait rod with a very soft tip.Go for it.
