Default Fishing tomorrow

Hi all. Tomorrow I may be going on the boat to lake Denoon. I read that is clear, has a sandy bottom, and has a max depth of about 55'.

This may not be enough info, but do you have any tips to give or what to concentrate on?

I'll be searching for fishing reports.

Thanks,

Julien

Sounds like Jerk baits or cranks (rattletrap type baits would be my first choice)would be the ticket. If using plastics use more natural colors, ie green pumpkin, and browns.

Cool. I never realized, but I have a bait that looks like a rat l trap. Do you fish rattletraps the same way as a crankbait? How do you fish a crankbait? Just pull back and reel the slack and repeat?

Also how do you fish jerkbaits?

i fish ratltraps by reeling as fast as you can. jerkbaits can be slowly retreived, twitch and paused so they go under the surface and come back up,and the suspneding ones can just be twitched. you can also use them as a rip bait or a slash bait by rip the rod down and taking up the slack and repeating. this works well in pre spawn.

Get some Zoom Superflukes, in either Smokin' Shad, or White Ice, and Texas rig them weightless. Cast out, let it sink just below the depth of where the fish are, then SLOWLY reel in, and twitch the rod tip twice every 6-9 seconds.

A few questions.

Would you use a 6 inch weightless texas rigged worm on a spinning rod or baitcasting?

"Cast out, let it sink just below the depth of where the fish are, then SLOWLY reel in, and twitch the rod tip twice every 6-9 seconds." But How am I supposed to know where the fish are?

By the way. The first 3 casts I got 2 bass on a fat free guppy white medium diving crankbait. Thanks for your tips guys.

look for cover like logs, rocks, weeds, lilly pads, trees hanging over the water, bushes, etc. also, get some polarized sunglasses. it helps you see underwater cover but cutting out glare. look for dropoffs and stuff underwater.

I'm sure some polarized sunglasses would help a lot.

What made you tell me that I should use a crankbait? Was it the sandy bottom or what?

I stopped at a bait shop on the way and got a Rat-L-Trap. I got an all copper/dirty orange one, but I didn't catch anything on it. When do you especially like using a color like this?

well, for me,it is more of the weight of the worm, not the lenght. i fish senkos on a baitcaster, but i fish trick worms and floating worms on spinning.

I see.

On soft topwaters like mice and frogs, are the hooks supposed to be just barely stuck in the bait, or just touching the sides?

well, it depends. with a soft plastic frog like a zoom horny toad, the hook should be texas rigged. with a hollow plastic frog, the hooks usaully just lay on the side, and when the bass strikes, the plastic gives, the hooks are exposed, and you set the hook.

In little vegetation, and clear water, cranks will usually excell for me, even better if you can bump some wood. It's more of a reaction type bait, and with little cover the bass are used to chasing baitfish. So anything resembling a wounded or eractic baitfish is what they want IMO.
